We have a fantastic opportunity for an Employee Relations Manager to join our people team based in Shrewsbury, this will be a hybrid role. Reporting directly to HR Business Partner, you will be responsible for supporting and providing employee relations advice and guidance to our operational management teams, including the day-to-day management and support of the Employee Relations team. Acting as the first point of contact for all Operational and Functional Managers to advise and guide through employee disputes and issues. Role Responsibilities To support the central Employee Relations team to deliver appropriate field-based and functional support to the management teams on issues such as reorganisation and complex disciplinary, grievance, sickness absence or capability processes. To support the HR Business Partners in the delivery of strategic ER related initiatives and projects. To attend management team meetings to represent ER team ensuring feedback is reported and appropriate actions followed up. Take ownership of managing KPI’s to ensure accuracy and consistency of case management with escalation to HRBP’s as required. Provide in person support (where appropriate) to managers on complex ER cases including investigations, meetings and appeals once escalated from the central ER team. To act as the escalation point to support ER Advisors as required. Ensuring the approach to providing advice is legally compliant and commercially appropriate before commencement of any process and policy application. To support the HRBP’s and in most cases take a lead role in advising on more complex cases ie Occupational Health, Capability Management, change programmes and redundancy for example. To share and issue managers with appropriate policy, process and template letters to support activity being applied. Which may also require a degree of handholding to support and develop line manager HR knowledge and capability. To support managers when handling sickness absence related cases resulting in Occupational Health/GP report and chasing for progress updates regularly. Develop effective working relationships within EMED to promote positive, proactive and fair employee relations across the organisation. To contribute to keeping up to date with required activity trackers for all regional activity. To assist the HRBP’s with any ER and Advisory training to the Operational Management team and HR Admin team ie sickness absence, managing disciplinary, grievance, performance improvement plans etc. Do you have what it takes? Previous supervisory/team leadership management experience. A solid HR/ER background, preferably within a shared service environment and the handling of complex case files. The ability to manage high volume case files at any one time. Previous experience of advising managers on the application of policy and process. Experience in delivering ER/HR related training would be an advantage. A good understanding of current employment legislation and how to apply. A proficient communicator who demonstrates active listening and is calm and responsive. Must display confidence through all written communications coupled with the ability to provide advice that doesn’t always please the recipient. Excellent organisational and time management skills, particularly in an environment that works at pace. An advanced user of Microsoft word, excel, PowerPoint and outlook. Knowledge and qualifications Currently studying or have completed CIPD level 3 as a minimum and keen to progress. A minimum of 5 years ER/HR experience with a good understanding and confidence when providing practical and commercial HR advice.
