Job Opportunity: 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant (Year 8 – ASD Support)
Location: Prestigious Private School, West London
Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am – 3:30pm
Contract: Full-Time, Term-Time Only
Rate: Competitive (depending on experience)
About the Role
An exciting opportunity has become available for a compassionate and skilled 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant to support a highly intelligent Year 8 student at a leading private school in West London. The student, who is high-functioning with ASD, also faces mental health challenges. They experience difficulties with social interactions and navigating the school day, making 1:1 support essential. This is a rewarding position where your support will make a real difference—academically, socially, and emotionally. You’ll be providing tailored assistance throughout the school day to help this student thrive in a busy secondary school environment.
Key Responsibilities
1. Deliver 1:1 support to a Year 8 student with high-functioning ASD
2. Assist with social skills, academic work, and emotional regulation
3. Break down tasks into manageable steps and build coping strategies
4. Collaborate with teaching staff, SENCOs, and parents to ensure a consistent approach
5. Support the development of communication and confidence in school
6. Monitor progress and adjust strategies to meet evolving needs
Requirements
1. Proven experience supporting secondary-aged students with ASD
2. Knowledge of mental health needs in young people
3. Ability to adapt communication styles and approaches to suit the student
4. Calm, patient, and empathetic with strong relationship-building skills
5. Must have an Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (essential)
6. Knowledge of Chinese is a bonus, but not required
