ABOUT SESTINA MUSIC
Sestina Music is a dynamic vocal ensemble specialising in the performance of early music. Founded in Belfast in 2011, Sestina Music has a reputation for excellence and authenticity in early music performance as well as a fresh and innovative approach to programming. Sestina Music collaborates regularly with specialist early music performers and has worked with various ensembles. Sestina Music's début recording, Master and Pupil, was released in April 2022.
The support and development of aspiring professional singers from Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland is at the heart of Sestina Music’s activities, including a mentoring programme providing training for young performers.
ABOUT THE ROLE
The General Manager is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the organisation and coordinating a busy season of concerts and events, as well as assisting in long-term strategic planning.
WORKING HOURS AND LOCATION
This role is offered on a 3-day per week, permanent basis and is subject to annual funding. Flexibility in working hours and the ability to work evenings and weekends is essential. The role is remote-working; the successful candidate will be required to travel for concerts and events, with accommodation and reasonable expenses provided.
JOB DESCRIPTION
1. Operational
● Assist the Musical Director in managing Sestina Music’s annual concert season
● Negotiate contracts with artists and partner organisations
● Supervise contracted performers at concerts
● Coordinate education and outreach activities
● Manage logistics for concerts and tours
● Manage online ticket booking for events
● Organise box office and front of house arrangements
● Respond to enquiries
● Liaise with public bodies and stakeholders
2. Finance
● Work with the Treasurer and Musical Director to manage budgets
● Assist with budgetary reports for the Board
3. Fundraising
● Prepare and submit funding applications
● Identify new funding sources
● Manage and expand the Friends of Sestina scheme
● Manage donors and sponsors
4. Marketing & Communication
● Devise and deliver marketing strategies for events
● Write press releases and organise advertising
5. Other
● Carry out any other related activities as required.
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA
1. University degree or professional qualification in Arts Administration
2. 2-3 years of experience in project and event management in the arts sector
3. Highly motivated and organised
4. Excellent written and verbal communication skills
5. Capacity to supervise contracted artists
6. Flexibility to work evenings and weekends
7. Excellent knowledge of social media platforms
8. Experience in financial management
9. A full UK drivers’ licence and access to own vehicle
10. Clear Access NI check
11. A track record in drafting successful funding applications
DESIRABLE CRITERIA
1. An interest in classical music and working knowledge of professional music ensembles
2. Experience in video editing and website management
3. Ability to adapt to changing circumstances
