The job holder reports to the L aboratory Manager and will work closely with the Senior Analytical Chemist. This role will carry out the appropriate chemical analytical work in the Innovation Department in order to both develop new products and production processes, and methods of analysis related to Caprolactone monomer and polymer s and to respond to non-routine technical requests received from customers for analysis or from s ite production for technical investigations. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES The following responsibilities are associated with this job role but are not limited to: To prepare and analyse samples within agree d timeframes, while ensuring all HSE, quality and turnaround time requirements are met. Preparing chemical standards and reagents in line with our Standard Operating Procedures and Risk Assessments. Use of the following instrumentation, after successful training, GC, GC-MS, NIR, Raman spectrometer Maintain the lab area according to the 5S standard to ensure an efficient and effective workplace Maintain and initiate repairs of the equipment according to the maintenance database and treat the equipment according to the manuals and instructions in order to keep the equipment well-functioning. Prove own competence concerning the lab activities by performing competence checks. Document all activities according to good documentation practices to comply with internal standards. Document all use of the relevant chemicals to comply with regulations on waste management including hazardous waste management. Aware and understand importance of the lab QMS and consequences of non-compliance to procedures Comply to SOPs/WIs/ Risk Assessments Innovation To carry out assigned product and process development-related experimental work in the lab and c ompile and tabulate test / experimental data and able to carry out simple mathematical calculations e.g. average, median, range, etc. Deliver agreed set of test/experimental data on-time with the amount of work that is expected with supervision. T o record information in lab note books / worksheets and other documents in accordance to procedures with close supervision from superior. Operations Support To be able to characterize production samples from Monomer and Polymer Dep a rtments. Administration To protect confidentiality of information related to work within the company such that no unauthorized person can gain access. To comply with company IT and legal policies To ensure that all work carried out is recorded in the appropriate format and filed in the appropriate manner in order to ensure traceability. AUTHORITY To plan and execute work tasks as agreed with the L ab M anager or Senior Analytical C hemist on a day to day basis To procure laboratory chemicals and supplies from suppliers as approved by the supervisor To maintain the housekeeping of laboratory workspace and cleanliness of any equipment used. QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE Formal qualification or relevant experience (2 – 3 years) in analytical chemistry is essential. BSc in Chemistry or science related field. Ability to use computer and approved software programmes such as Outlook, Word and Excel at basic level. Ability to manage and utilise available resources such as equipment/tools, time and information to achieve work-related goals, with close supervision.
