Amazon is seeking an experienced and business-oriented EU Engineering Project Manager to coordinate the planning and execution of logistic process solutions for the continued expansion of our EU Customer Fulfillment network.
Successful candidates will have Engineering Program and Project Management experience combined with a strong technical problem-solving ability. The role will understand all aspects of an Amazon Fulfillment Center while focusing on its automation technologies (conveyance, sortation, robotics) and storage solutions. This person will be responsible for delivering small and medium size state-of-the-art material handling systems, technology innovations, and commissioning & qualification while cooperating with internal teams and external contractors in order to effectively launch new Fulfillment Centers and expansions/conversion of existing sites, from the definition of business requirements up to the final building handover to the Operations and Maintenance teams. The candidate will own Safety and make interventions accordingly. Sustainability and Quality are foundational deliverables that the candidate is expected to lead or contribute.
Key job responsibilities
1. Ensure full compliance with Safety and Sustainability building requirements.
2. End-to-end ownership for small-medium scale engineering projects (scheduling, resource planning, installation, commissioning and qualification, launch and ramp-up support).
3. Lead technical design reviews (2D&3D) and propose design solutions for material handling and storage solutions that meet both business needs and global design standards.
4. Support and track the relevant CAPEX requests to ensure that all projects are delivered within budget and best overall value.
5. Coordinate critical path items, dive deep on technical details and provide innovative solutions to resolve issues.
6. Continuous project status tracking and communication, targeted and timely elevation of potential risks and issues across multiple teams and with project stakeholders.
7. Prepare and conduct weekly standing meetings with internal and external vendors/contractors to plan and track deliverables.
8. Purchase and Change order management supported by dedicated Procurement and Change management departments.
9. Ensure quality of execution and installation, compliance with the design via commissioning and qualification activities.
10. Collaborate closely with various internal teams such as World Wide Engineering, Construction, Operations, Reliability Maintenance Engineering, Procurement and Change Management.
A day in the life
You will work on the delivery of one of our Amazon Fulfillment Centers with a project lifecycle of about a year as part of a high-performing team. During the early project phases of project design and bidding, you will predominantly work in an Amazon office or from your home. During the project execution, you will typically spend 50% of your time at the project site, with peaks throughout the year, extending to most weekdays with full ownership during the last phases of project installation, Commissioning & Qualification and post Launch ramp-up. You will enjoy the rewarding experience of launching an Amazon Fulfillment Center or upgrading an existing one. After initial months onboarding, you will be progressively given important and extending responsibilities, within the project and aside it, by taking the lead on other business horizontal tasks. You will be constantly helped by the team, respect and leverage diverse points of view and focus on the inclusion of new members.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
1. Bachelor Degree in Engineering or related discipline.
2. Experience interacting with cross-functional teams & subject-matter experts.
3. First Project/Program Management experience in comparable industrial environments.
4. Experience using MS Excel, CAD/BIM related software, MS Project.
5. Strong verbal and written communication skills in English language.
6. Flexibility to travel up to 50% across projects in Europe.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
1. Knowledge about automated material handling systems, packaging technologies, and storage solutions.
2. Project execution experience in a construction environment (new build) or operational environment (buildout).
3. Understanding of operational as well as reliability and maintenance processes including relevant software tools.
4. French, Polish, Arabic, Turkish, Afrikaans, and Zulu are considered preferred qualifications.
