As Community Project Worker you will engage with and empower a network of community groups in Strabane and immediate surrounding areas, including neighbouring border areas, to make and implement decisions to improve their communities together. In essence, it is a furtherance of the co-design ethos put into the wider PEACEPLUS Co-Designed Local Action Plan. You will contribute to the achievement of the Company's Strategy by ensuring effective delivery of community participation that conforms to regulatory requirements, adheres to Company policies and procedures, complies with recognised good practice and achieves desired outcomes for the organisation.
A project supported by the European Union’s PEACE IV Programme, managed by the Special EU Programmes Body (SEUPB).
Primary Function:
As Community Project Worker you will establish a stakeholder group who will co-design, collaborate through and manage the process. You will run a range of community awareness events to encourage residents and groups to engage with the cross-community process. You will develop and promote participation and community involvement initiatives, and build relationships and work with outside agencies, staff and participants to deliver community initiatives.
Key Duties Include:
1. Work with manager and colleagues to organize and implement a range of programmers/events which have the potential to build personal and community capacity, improve overall health and well-being and increasing community engagement in Strabane and surrounding areas.
2. Work in partnership with local community/voluntary and statutory organisations as part of a broader community development process, facilitating the real involvement of local people in identifying and addressing their social health needs and building capacity of the whole community for the future.
3. To liaise with appropriate organizations in Strabane and surrounding areas (community/voluntary/statutory) to ensure the effective delivery of programmes in the area and encourage positive engagement with all communities.
4. To identify and secure resources from a variety of sources to help sustain long term community development/capacity building and sustainable programme delivery.
5. To ensure that programmes are targeted, organized and implemented appropriately in keeping with the agreed themes and SLAs.
6. Assist groups in publicizing and recruiting for a varied range of programmes through various media channels and local outlets – e.g. volunteers.
7. Provide information and support aimed at increasing local capacity, developing new community links and increasing cross community/cross border participation and networking.
8. Act as a resource to other groups and assist them with the delivery of appropriate programmes and develop new programmes to address unmet needs.
9. To deliver and source others to assist with the delivery of projects, programmes and services.
10. Research and cost all aspects of proposed programmes keeping within budget parameters and managing programme finances accordingly in keeping with Company policies.
11. In conjunction with SDCS manager, present programme proposals and prepare monthly progress reports or as appropriate.
12. To ensure that proper financial records are kept and maintained up to date, including the recording and reporting of all in-kind contributions towards programme development.
13. Implement the agreed monitoring and evaluation framework identified for the programme.
14. Plan, coordinate and deliver a number of community engagement/awareness events as part of a PEACE PLUS Programme and attend all relevant associated PEACEPLUS training/events as required.
15. To identify, coordinate and deliver 20 small scale grassroots engagement events over a 2-year period, engaging with local stakeholders, collaborating effectively and working together using Codesign principles.
16. Ensure the PEACE PLUS and other associated COMMUNITY based projects at SDCS are delivered in accordance with company strategy and as outlined in SLAs/Contracts/agreements.
Essential Criteria:
1. Third level qualification in a relevant community development and/or health and well-being discipline OR a minimum of two years’ experience of implementing community development and/or similar projects.
2. Knowledge Of:
* Designing, planning & delivering programmes and activities
* Facilitation, group work and leadership work
* Working with multi-agency sector organisations
* A clear understanding of community development and PEACEPLUS themes.
* Knowledge of local community infrastructure
* Knowledge of local geographical areas
* Budgeting for programmes services and activities
* Good working knowledge of social media

* Experience of working on an intersectoral basis and/or servicing partnerships
* Knowledge of PEACEPLUS initiative
* Knowledge of project monitoring
* D1 Driving Licence
Salary: NICVA Pay Scale 4 SCP 9
