The team particularly focuses on the design of microclimates for urban spaces. During the early stages of a design, in-house developed digital models of wind simulations and solar and thermal radiation are used to analyse complex urban scenarios on master planning scale or at the level of an individual development, thus ensuring comfortable spaces from the outset of the architectural design process.We have an opportunity for a Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) Engineer Intern for Summer 2025 at Thornton Tomasetti's London office. You will have the opportunity to take part in the following:ResponsibilitiesWind microclimate studies for buildings and master planning for planning and design projectsActive wind and acceleration measurements, data collection and data processingCoordination of design work with in-house staff as well as other design professionalsInvolvement in R&D activities and the development of new toolsRequirementsUndergraduate entering their final year with a concentration in CIVIL, STRUCTURAL or ARCHITECTURAL engineering.Excellent academic record, with a passion for structural engineering.Comfortable with communicating with others in person, over the phone and via email.Microsoft Excel experience for data management desirable.Experience in Rhino and Grasshopper helpful, but not essential.Experience with Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulations in Ansys Fluent\/CFX, OpenFOAM or Simscale preferred.Thornton Tomasetti is proud to be an equal employment workplace.
