Post: Clinical Fellow in Urology ST3+ based at Weston General Hospital
The Bristol Urological Institute wishes to appoint a Clinical Fellow in Urology ST3+, initially for one year with further extension dependent on satisfactory progress.
It is desirable that candidates have experience and familiarity with UK hospital systems and practices or equivalent.
Overseas applicants are expected to be eligible for registration with the General Medical Council and have passed the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) with a minimum overall score of 7.5. This must be clearly outlined on application. Please check the GMC website for details.

Weston General Hospital offers core Urology services through the Bristol Urological Institute (BUI).
Main duties of the job
Work of the Department
The cases dealt with in Weston are mainly General Urology with a tertiary referral service provided for urethroplasty and penile cancer. The department offers primary management of all common urological conditions. Cases requiring specialised management are referred to Southmead Hospital.
Ward Duties
1. To be present on the ward Monday to Friday for ward round.
2. To supervise and assist the F1, CT2 and Staff Grade in the care of ward patients.
3. On-Call - daytime on-call responsibilities involve seeing emergencies and ward referrals, alternating weekly with another clinical fellow. This arrangement allows, in the week not on-call, gaining of experience in theatre, out-patients and diagnostics.
Audit / Study / Research
1. To participate in all stages of the audit process, including conception, data retrieval & analysis, and presentation.
2. To use study time appropriately for preparation for the FRCS Urol examination, or to prepare talks on suitable urological topics for presentation at the monthly audit meetings.
3. To participate in research topics being run by the department.
4. To continue & complete any outstanding research projects including writing up of papers and/or thesis.

Job responsibilities
Responsibility is to all three NBT Weston urology consultants Mr D Dickerson, Mr M Goh & Mr L Taylor as well as to visiting Southmead consultants Mr E Rowe, Mr R Pal, Mr A Manjunath, Mr S Lee, Miss O Kalejaiye & Miss C Ochoa Vargas.
This post is best suited to a trainee wishing to gain core urology experience. This may suit an individual wanting to apply for future ST3 Urology or CESR.
The post holder will participate in an on-call rota and will be responsible for the day-to-day management of ward patients.
The successful candidate will be expected to participate in the service activities in the department.
Research
A dedicated research session is provided for all fellows. There are several ongoing research projects and fellows are expected to participate in these projects, successfully publish, as well as undertaking at least one audit project during their training.
Teaching
The Bristol Urological Institute has an active teaching programme and Fellows and Registrars are expected to actively participate in this activity. The post holder will be available to undertake teaching sessions for medical students and junior doctors as required. In certain circumstances, you may be required to cover a colleague's clinical duties in order that they may deliver teaching sessions.

Annual Leave
You will be entitled to 13 days (pro rata) annual leave per six-month period and may claim a day off in lieu if rostered on duty on a Bank Holiday.
Study Leave
10 days (pro rata) study leave is allocated per 12-month period, for this post although time off for CPD must be agreed mutually with the clinical and educational supervisors, and the education lead.
