The Faculty of Education is looking to appoint a part-time HR Assistant to join a growing HR team which supports c.200 staff made up of Academic, Research, and Professional Services staff.
The Faculty of Education is a member of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences (SHSS) at the University of Cambridge. It is one of the largest groups of educational researchers and teacher educators in the country.
Once fully resourced, the HR team will be comprised of the HR Manager, two HR Coordinators, and two HR Assistants. The HR team in the Faculty of Education is responsible for providing an efficient, comprehensive and professional HR service, supporting the effective operation of the Faculty.
This role will support the HR Manager, and work closely with the HR Coordinators and other HR Assistant, and will provide administrative support for the day-to-day operational HR function, including:
1. Supporting with recruitment administration
2. Updating and maintaining employee records and the HR database
3. Processing employee change requests
4. Acting as a first point of contact for HR queries
5. Managing the Faculty's casual workforce through the University's dedicated system
The successful applicant will have good administrative/office experience, strong communication and interpersonal skills, excellent organisational skills, and the ability to work autonomously at times without direction. They will also have excellent attention to detail and the ability to work with empathy, discretion, and diplomacy, due to the nature of working in HR, and be able to remain calm if dealing with a difficult situation.
While prior HR/Recruitment Administration experience is advantageous, it is not essential. The successful candidate will show an eagerness to learn and be proactive in developing their knowledge of HR best practices and employment law.
