Job Title: Mechanical Quantity Surveyor Location: Essex, UK Salary: Up to £75,000 per annum, depending on experience About the Role On behalf of our client, we are seeking an experienced Mechanical Quantity Surveyor with a strong focus on ductwork and ventilation systems to oversee the financial and commercial aspects of mechanical building services projects. The ideal candidate will ensure projects are delivered on budget while maintaining the highest standards of quality, compliance, and safety. Our client specializes in delivering bespoke ductwork systems tailored to project-specific requirements, including fire-rated ductwork compliant with BS-EN1366 Parts 1, 8 & 9, and comprehensive airside packages that include air handling units, fans, dampers, and other HVAC components. They are committed to maintaining high-quality standards audited to ISO 9001-2015 and adhering to rigorous safety protocols. Key Responsibilities Manage all commercial aspects of mechanical building services projects, focusing on ductwork and ventilation systems. Prepare, submit, and negotiate valuations and final accounts. Conduct cost analysis, budgeting, and forecasting to ensure efficient project delivery. Evaluate tenders, procure subcontractors, and negotiate contracts specific to mechanical and ductwork scopes. Monitor and report on project expenditure, identifying opportunities for cost optimization. Conduct regular site visits to ensure project progress aligns with budget, quality, and compliance with fire-rated installation guidelines. Administer and manage change orders, variations, and associated cost implications. Collaborate with project managers and engineers to ensure accurate financial reporting and effective contract administration. Requirements At least 5 years of experience as a Quantity Surveyor with expertise in mechanical services, particularly ductwork and ventilation systems. Familiarity with fire-rated ductwork, airside packages, and ventilation components. Strong understanding of BS-EN1366 Parts 1, 8 & 9 compliance and FIRAS guidelines. Proven skills in cost estimating, procurement, and contract negotiation. Knowledge of JCT and NEC contract frameworks. Excellent analytical skills with attention to detail and financial acumen. Strong communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to liaise effectively with clients and subcontractors. Proficiency in quantity surveying software and Microsoft Office Suite.
