Senior Engineer - Structures Technical Approval
Contract Type: Permanent
We are seeking a Senior Engineer to play a key role in supporting the Team Leader with technical approvals, providing pre-planning advice on highway structures, and conducting comprehensive structural reviews.
This role requires a proactive and collaborative professional who can work effectively across teams, demonstrating a strong technical background and the ability to operate independently. Excellent communication skills and a keen responsiveness to client needs are essential for success in this position.
The Role
1. To provide timely and accurate advice to internal teams, County Councillors, District Members, Parish Councils, Developers and the general public on all structures-related matters as required.
2. To ensure the team’s performance in providing speedy and courteous responses to technical approval submissions, structures queries and complaints is in accordance with relevant targets and standards.
3. To provide assistance to the Team Leader in relation to all aspects covered within the team.
4. To carry out technical approvals and the preparation of relevant reports.
5. To carry out/review CS451s and CS470s.
Minimum Requirements
1. An appropriate Degree and experience of application in structures.
2. Membership of, or working towards, a relevant Professional Institution (ICE, IStructE) with evidence of continual professional development.
3. Good knowledge and evidence of the application of Highway Legislation, relevant structures design procedures and software, technical approval processes, standards and good practice, preferably in a local authority environment.
4. Experience of dealing with members of the public, consultants & developers; able to build and maintain effective working relationships with key people both internally and externally.
5. Knowledge and experience of budgetary governance, management and control measures (Desirable).
