Brief Description
In this role, you’ll be helping to ensure the safe, effective and efficient delivery of the £1bn portfolio of capital investment projects across Wales and Western. These projects, which are delivered 24/7/365, include some of the biggest infrastructure schemes in the UK. They support the operation, renewal, development and enhancement of the railway network to benefit passengers and freight users.
You will be delivering our Capital Delivery (CD) safety and sustainable development strategy, providing professional health and safety advice, support and guidance to the Regional Delivery Portfolio teams, co-ordinating portfolio activities and facilitating compliance with the Network Rail Health and Safety Management System and all relevant legal, industry and company standards. You will be working closely with our supply partners to ensure that learning from investigations and assurances is shared.
The postholder will be expected to work 2 to 3 days a week in Network Rail offices, supply partner site offices and work sites.
IT IS ESSENTIAL THAT YOU HOLD A CURRENT DRIVING LICENCE AS THIS IS MANDATORY FOR THE JOB ROLE.
About the role (External)
In this Health & Safety Manager role, you will:
1.Provide functional support, guidance and professional expertise to the project teams on all health and safety matters affecting the portfolio of projects so as to deliver successful execution of the programme or works.
2.Work directly with the project teams providing health and safety direction by leading the HSEA specialist aligned to the team. (Where applicable)
3.Lead/Direct periodic meetings with the contracting organisations to share and promulgate best practice and lessons learnt.
4.Provide support to the teams on inspection and monitoring of the safety and environmental performance of projects and monitor so that a consistent approach is taken to contractor occupational and construction safety across all projects within the portfolio.
5.Work with project teams to determine practical and deliverable measures to improve health & safety performance within projects.
6.Support teams in the investigation of accidents and incidents and in the implementation of resulting recommendations.
7.Provide the single point of contact for the project with HMRI and other health and safety organisations for day-to-day site health and safety.
8.Co-ordinate the health & safety activities of the programme and maintain effective liaison with other Capital Delivery Regions, Programmes and Major Projects and aligned routes.
You will ideally have
·NEBOSH General or Construction certificate
·NEBOSH Tech SP certificate
·Significant experience in the successful management of HSEA issues on major programmes of work in the construction and/or rail industries
·Project Safety Management course.
What could set you apart
·Membership of a relevant professional body with chartered status and/or educated to degree level.
·NEBOSH diploma, IEMA certificate,
·An experienced Health and Safety or Environment practitioner.
·Knowledge of Behavioural Change techniques.
·Knowledge of Network Rail’s systems and processes.
·Working knowledge of rules, Regulations and standards applicable to contractor safety.
