This is not your average nursing role. Working in a secure prison environment, you will experience diverse patient cases ranging from primary care to acute conditions. You will work autonomously and as part of a multidisciplinary team to deliver exceptional patient care.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide high-quality clinical care, assessing patients, prescribing treatment, and referring when necessary.
* Diagnose and manage a range of conditions, from minor injuries to long-term illnesses such as diabetes, hypertension, asthma, COPD, and cardiovascular disease.
* Prescribe and monitor medications, including for mental health conditions such as depression and anxiety.
* Assess and support patients experiencing substance misuse, including harm reduction strategies and referrals for medication-assisted treatment.
* Conduct testicular lump assessments and refer patients for further investigation when necessary.
* Assess and manage dermatological conditions, recognising signs that require specialist referral.
* Carry out first reception screenings for new prisoners and assess their fitness for detention, release, or transfer.
* Support and mentor junior staff, ensuring high standards of care within the team.
* Respond to medical emergencies within the prison and provide necessary treatment.
* Work within the secure environment, maintaining professional boundaries and ensuring compliance with healthcare regulations.
The Ideal Candidate
To be considered for this role, you must have:
* Current NMC registration as a Nurse Practitioner with a V300 Independent Prescribing qualification.
* Experience working in primary care, urgent care, or prison healthcare settings.
* Strong clinical assessment skills and the ability to work independently within your scope of practice.
* Knowledge and experience in prescribing and managing chronic and acute health conditions.
* An understanding of mental health medications and the ability to support patients with anxiety and depression.
* Experience managing substance misuse cases, including providing harm reduction strategies and referrals.
* Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with a multidisciplinary team.
