Consultant in Infection
Applications are invited for a Consultant in Infection post at the Royal Cornwall Hospital in Truro.
The Department of Clinical Microbiology currently has a full-time 10 PA vacancy for a Consultant in Infection. Equal consideration will be given to individuals with medical microbiology or joint microbiology with infectious diseases.
Main Duties of the Job
This post is to contribute to the delivery of an infection service to the patients of Royal Cornwall Hospitals' NHS Trust and the Cornwall and Isles of Scilly community, working in partnership with other local trusts to deliver high-quality healthcare services across the county. Serving a widespread local population, as well as thousands of visitors to Cornwall each year, poses several unique healthcare challenges. The Trust delivers acute medical and surgical services to a population of approximately 415,000, which more than doubles during the busy holiday periods and includes many international travelers.
The post-holder will be expected to support infection services and multidisciplinary patient care, liaising in a timely manner with clinicians, hospital staff, medical microbiologists, laboratory staff, general practitioners, and health protection consultants concerning the diagnosis and management of patients, control and prevention of infections, including the provision of telephone advice.
The post-holder will develop relationships with the staff in different clinical areas, which may include attending multi-disciplinary team meetings and participating in other clinical or audit meetings as required.
The department is actively involved in the delivery of the education programme of the University of Exeter.
