Youth Worker
Tradewind Cumbria are currently looking for three Youth Workers to be based within a school in Cumbria Pupil Referral Unit (PRU). Starting as soon as possible working full time until July 2025 and could turn permanent for the right person.
Tradewind is working in partnership with a 'Good' Alternative Provision in Cumbria to recruit an experienced Youth Worker to work within the school's pastoral team. The school is offering three positions with a full year contract.
You will be working with children aged from 9-16 who are no longer in mainstream school. You will be working with the pastoral team across the school with different year groups ranging from Key Stage 2 to Key Stage 4.
The most recent OFSTED graded the school as 'Good'. At the Alternative Provision, they aim to ensure that they give the necessary support to improve the students' confidence, self-esteem, and enable them to become successful learners in school and prepared for their future working lives.
These children have been excluded from their mainstream secondary schools due to behavioral challenges; therefore, we are looking for Youth Workers who are experienced with these types of young people and can demonstrate an ability to de-escalate obstructive behavior when presented to them.
The ideal candidate for this role will have Team Teach Training and a minimum of 6 months experience working in an Alternative Provision environment or have worked extensively with learners with SEMH (social, emotional, and mental health needs).
We are looking for:
1. Excellent communication and behavior management techniques
2. Teaching Assistant Level or Degree Qualified
3. Support Worker/Youth Worker
4. Confidence in dealing with challenging behavior
5. Experience with supporting SEMH
6. Ability to confidently work as part of a team and independently
7. Team Teach Trained

1. This position is subject to an Enhanced DBS Disclosure, Overseas Police Clearances (if applicable), and professional reference checks
2. Your CV must cover the last 10 years of employment history where possible and any employment breaks must be explained
3. You must have the legal right to work in the UK
The Alternative Provision offers fantastic facilities for their students and staff. Staff are made to feel valued and part of the team. There may be the opportunity to study towards further qualifications and training.
The school is based on the outskirts of Cumbria, extremely close to motorway links. Alternatively, if you are traveling by public transport, there is a bus stop within walking distance.
