Job Summary
The FSA is a non-ministerial department of over 1600 people. We play a critical role in protecting public health and consumers’ wider interests in food across England, Wales and Northern Ireland. Our vision is an important one - to drive change, delivering “food you can trust” and working towards a healthier and more sustainable food system.
Science sits at the very heart of the Food Standards Agency (FSA) and our work. We have long been one of the most highly regarded regulators in the country, and a standard bearer for food standards amongst our international counterparts. We credit much of our success to the fact that our decision-making processes are built upon a foundation of strong scientific evidence. Everything we do is fuelled by evidence, so it’s important that we work to ensure this science is based on rigorous and valid research.
Our Science, Assurance and Coordination Team plays a significant role in informing the Agency’s policies and practical approaches to food safety. Through Scientific Advisory Committees (SACs), we gather research and form strategies that work to protect the public health for all who live in the UK.
Job Description
We’re looking for an Administrative Secretariat who can help us tie this work together, offering the administrative support and delivery of evidence packages that empowers the SACs to make informed conclusions. The role will also entail the provision of administrative support of SAC meetings, helping to ensure that the Agency’s guiding scientific voices are able to work effectively for the benefit of the British public. Helping to arrange and coordinate approximately six meetings a year, you’ll be part of an engaged and passionate team that also manages budgets, implements governance processes for Committee members, and works to continuously improve our methods for committee management.
You’ll be talented at balancing competing priorities, offering high-quality administrative support and coordinating with colleagues so that you can deliver at pace. If you are a strong communicator who is excited to help the FSA deliver robust scientific advice, don’t hesitate to apply to join us as Administrative Secretariat.
