We're looking for a full-time Gardener to join us for the next chapter of the Quarry Bank Story. We have some exciting new projects over the next few years to take the garden to the next level so it is a great time to join the team. One of Britain's greatest industrial heritage sites, set in Picturesque gardens and countryside. The wider agricultural landscape, which incorporates village and Apprentice House, provides the essential rural setting to this unusual and rare and "perfect survivor of the industrial picturesque". Our main focus is telling the story of the first 50 years of Quarry Bank and the people who lived and worked here. What it's like to work here You'll join a friendly and committed team who will provide you with a welcoming and supportive work environment. The work here is endlessly fulfilling, and with so much seasonal change there will always be something new to discover. There's plenty of scope for further training, in house and external, to continue to build relevant practical and people skills. You'll join a team of 6 gardeners a Head Gardener, 2 Senior Gardeners and 3 Gardeners. The gardens themselves contain 18th century Picturesque elements, plus a Victorian parterre and rock gardens, restored walled garden and vinery, orchards, productive horticulture, wildflower meadows, stunning ornamental borders and striking geology.All with a river running through it. What you'll be doing We're looking for someone with horticulture experience and an enthusiasm of productive and ornamental growing. You'll be carrying out physically demanding work daily on a site with steep hills and you'll be competent in machinery such as mowers, strimmers and hedgecutters. You'll be able to connect with your gardening colleagues and volunteers as well as share an enthusiasm for engaging our visitors in the Quarry Bank story and aims of the National Trust. Who we're looking for We'd love to hear from you if you're: an enthusiastic horticulturist and hands-on gardener, who's worked with hard landscaping before knowledgeable about plants, with a great eye for detail. experienced with machinery, including tractors, chainsaws, rotary and cylinder mowers, and with some knowledge of maintenance a driver with a full licence able to manage a demanding outdoor role good at talking to, and getting on with, all kinds of people equally confident working within a team, with volunteers or on your own able to keep to time, plan and meet deadlines The package The National Trust has the motto 'For everyone, for ever' at its heart.
