Main Purpose of Job & Key Responsibilities
As head of the Stamford Sales Order Engineering team and reporting to the site VP or Operation Manager, the appointed individual will be responsible for planning, leading and coordinating the local engineering function to support both the sales and production functions to ensure timely delivery of both load banks and dynos to the correction cost, quality and technical specification. The role will involve daily interaction plus communication with key internal functionals, suppliers and customers in the achievement of this goal.
* Manage and coordinate the frontend customer support team which provides applications, technical support, costing guidance and BOM selection or creation.
* Manage and coordinate the electrical and mechanical teams responsible for detailed build definition, electrical drawings, technical performance checks and sheet metal programs. Ensure these are delivered in a timely manner to meet the weekly / monthly production needs.
* Ensure the product build data accuracy is managed via a 3C process and appropriate document control / data release process.
* Current product enhancements and cost / quality / legislation engineering is undertaken through the Avtron change management process which is led by the engineering function.
* Lead & support product field quality investigations as required.
* System integration – ensuring products are designed for manufacture (DFM) and meet the expected performance targets plus outputs.
* Creation of engineering technical specifications and schematics to support sales orders. Support FAT and customer audits technically as and when required.
* Creation of test reports and technical documents to support customer product use as required.
* Coordinate and lead specific customer sales order projects as required.
* Identify and implement opportunities for improvement to enhance our future products by keeping abreast of new and emerging technologies.
* Ongoing system and process improvements to enhance the way we work and drive department / business efficiency.
* Ensure product safety and compliance is achieved re. agreed codes & standards (e.g. CE, UL, CSA).
Qualifications
* Suitable engineering qualifications (e.g. BS / Beng) plus proven industrial and product management experience.
* 5 –10 years plus leading & coordinating an engineer function or technical project team.
* Professional Engineering (PE) status a bonus.
Proven Skills
* Ideally electrical machine design experience linked to load banks, gensets, transformers and / or grid connect power transmission circuits and systems. Knowledge of low and medium voltage systems.
* A strong personality with energy, drive, adaptability, problem solving and decision-making capability. Ideally, having worked with similar electrical products and can bring an aligned and best practise experience to allow the continued growth of the engineering team / business.
* Good communication skills, both verbal and written, comfortable presenting to and engaging with key working parties both internally and externally.
