This Apprenticeship role is an exciting opportunity to support the delivery and development of the University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust Library & Knowledge Service. We are looking for an enthusiastic, customer service orientated individual to join our team, to provide a range of library and administration services to NHS staff and students. As an apprentice, you will receive ongoing training and support throughout the apprenticeship programme.
You will be responsible for carrying out administrative tasks, dealing with document requests, handling general enquiries, lending books, inputting data into electronic systems, and ensuring the smooth running of the Library & Knowledge Service at the Queen's Hospital site in Burton with occasional cross-site working at our Royal Derby Hospital site.
An ability to work both in a team and alone is required, along with the ability to prioritise workload and work well under pressure. Excellent communication and good IT skills are pivotal to this role.
The post holder must have a flexible approach to working across all Trust sites.
The postholder will be responsible for staffing the Library reception desk, dealing with a range of routine enquiries and assisting in supporting users with a variety of e-resources.
A key role will be maintaining a safe and tidy Library environment, as well as administering various resources and Library systems .
An ability to work both in a team and alone is essential, along with the ability to prioritise workload and work well under pressure. Good communication and IT skills are also essential to this role.

This is an 15 month Apprenticeship opportunity, with the expectation to complete the apprenticeship programme, including mandatory training, with the timeframe.

• Staff the Library enquiry desk - welcome and support Library users and deal and assist with a range of routine enquiries, for example, information and IT enquiries, book loans, registering new users and assisting with inductions, referring more complex enquiries to more senior staff.
• Assist in supporting users with a variety of e-resources.
• Maintain a safe and tidy Library environment
• Keep the Library tidy throughout the day. This will include checking that books, furniture etc. are in their correct place and tidying and re-shelving stock.
• Library resources/collections
• Use the Library Management System to issue, renew, return and reserve items for Library users and register new users.
• Search the Library Catalogue and assist users in locating stock.
• Process new stock.
• Participate in annual stock take and stock weed.
• Administrative support to the Library Team
• Share in the day-to-day tasks involved in providing the Library service e.g. opening/closing the Library, responding to Library emails, sorting post, processing inter-library loans.
• Contact Library users by email or phone in relation to basic enquiries.
• Liaise with appropriate services as necessary (e.g. IT Helpdesk, Estates).
• Use Microsoft Office to support Library tasks.
• Assist with the marketing and promotion of new and existing Library resources.
• Follow Library standard operating procedures and comment on improvements and changes if necessary.
• Travel to and provide cover at other sites when necessary.
• Contribute to Team meetings (face to face or virtually).
• Participate in any projects to maintain and develop services and collections.
• Understand and abide by relevant legislation e.g. Copyright, Data Protection etc.
• Under supervision, assist in the tasks and duties of other staff with the team during periods of staff leave/absence to ensure that an effective quality service is maintained at all times and contributing to the work of the team.
• Continuing Professional Development
• Work with the Library Managers to identify and meet personal development objectives and training requirements.
• Undergo all Trust mandatory training.
• Undertake an annual appraisal to identify any necessary personal development required to meet the objectives of the Library Team and the apprenticeship qualification, and to further develop the post-holder's skills and role.
• Complete the apprenticeship programme, including mandatory training, with the timeframe of the apprenticeship.
