Job summary We currently have a vacancy at the registrar level in our General / Breast Surgery Department and are looking to recruit an appropriately skilled and enthusiastic individual to work as at ST3 level or above. This post is a full-time post. The post involves working electively with our General / Breast team predominantly based at Solihull Hospital with an on-call commitment to the emergency service at Heartlands Hospital. The post will be available for a period of 1 year subject to satisfactory 6 Month probation period, the post can be extended if mutually agreed. The post holders will need to be hard working, innovative, show initiative, be a team worker, and have good communication skills. They will be expected to have significant experience in the assessment of Breast disease, General and Emergency surgical conditions and to be able to work at the ST3 level and will be expected to hold the MRCS or equivalent. Main duties of the job The appointee will be working with the General / Breast team to provide a comprehensive breast service to patients presenting to the UHB site. This post will be ideal for a surgeon with a major interest in breast diseases. The post holder will be required to provide a high quality and effective clinical care to the population served by our trust. We have a well-established teaching commitment to the University of Birmingham with a large proportion of Birmingham Medical Students being taught at our hospitals. All medical firms have both Resident and Medical Students attached to them. We are one of the largest care providers in the UK and offer both symptomatic and screening service to our patients. We provide service across 3 sites, Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Solihull Hospital and Good Hope Hospital. We treat around 900 breast cancers in a year and half of these patients are managed at Solihull Hospital. There are currently 3 breast consultants and an associate specialist working at Solihull Hospital. The breast unit is supported by 2 Oncoplastic Breast Surgeons and the team work closely with the Plastic Surgery team based at Solihull. In this post the candidate will have sessions mainly at Solihull Hospital and cross site cover is to be expected when needed.
