Job Responsibilities
* To work as a member of the inter-professional team and assist the registered nurses and medical team in identifying patient fitness and suitability for elective surgery.
* Support the development of pre-operative assessment triage clinic (PACT).
* Contribute to the efficient running of the clinics and a supportive working environment for patients and staff.
* Work closely with the receptionists and ward clerk.
* Ensure patient privacy, dignity, and confidentiality at all times.
* Perform observations such as height, weight, BMI calculations, peak flow, oxygen saturation levels, blood pressure readings, urine analysis, phlebotomy, and recording ECGs. Record results in the electronic patient record and report findings to the patient's named nurse.
* Remove and replace dressings as requested by registered staff and remove simple sutures.
* Work within department protocols to request Blood and MRSA investigations.
* Ensure all appropriate documentation and equipment are available for outpatient clinics and returned to the appropriate area at the end of the clinic.
* Assist registered nurses with late cover in OPD if clinics are running late.
* Welcome patients and record their arrival into the department.
* Direct or escort patients to other departments in the hospital.
* Liaise with transport providers to ensure patients are collected from the clinic promptly.
* Maintain accurate records both paper and IT.
* Assist in the orientation of new staff to the clinical area.
* Attend and contribute to team meetings.
* Help maintain cleanliness in patient and non-patient areas, including cleaning examination couches between patients.
* Help maintain adequate levels of clinical supplies and receive and put away stores.
* Report all incidents/accidents to the Sister or co-ordinator and assist in completing accident/incident forms.
* Attend mandatory training in accordance with Trust policy.
* Set personal objectives in a yearly personal development review.
