How’s this for job satisfaction? At Scottish Water we look after Scotland's most precious natural resource. From source to tap, we’re not just guarding Scotland’s reputation for refreshingly pure water – we’re protecting the environment too.
Our Water Response teams are the heroes behind over 20,000 repairs every year to Scotland’s water network. Burst mains, valve maintenance, lead pipe replacements – they’re keeping Scotland’s water flowing.
Ready to take the next step in your career? If you’ve got hands-on experience and the ambition to move into a leadership role, we’ve got just the opportunity. We’re looking for an Operations Team Coach to join our Water Response team in the Inverness and Dornoch area.
What you’ll be doing
As Operations Team Coach, you’ll be right in the thick of it. Supporting the Team Leader, you’ll be the driving force behind the team’s success, making sure repairs are completed safely, on time and in full compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations.
You’ll be the go-to for keeping things running smoothly – scheduling work, allocating resources, and making sure every box is ticked. Managing plant and machinery? That’s all part of the gig. You’ll make sure everything’s maintained, operated safely, and working like a dream.
Customer service? You’ll smash it. Whether you’re tackling customer queries, handling escalations, or resolving service issues, you’ll keep disruptions to a minimum.
Health, safety, and wellbeing will be a top priority. You’ll take the lead on risk assessments, sort out hazards before they become problems, and work to keep your team and community safe.
You’ll also be the team’s biggest cheerleader. Leading by example, you’ll mentor and support your crew through My Story - our approach to performance and development – helping them grow, achieve their goals, and build their skills.
But you won’t stop there. You’ll keep one eye on today and the other on tomorrow, always looking for ways to make things better. Spot inefficiencies, tackle problems, lead change – it’s all part of helping your team thrive and smashing goals along the way.
What you’ll need:
You’ve got hands-on experience in field operations, ideally within the water, utilities, or construction sector, and you know your stuff when it comes to tackling repairs.
You’re tech-savvy, too. Whether it’s cracking on with Salesforce, analysing data, or getting the most out of Office 365, you’re all about turning information into action.
This role isn’t just about leading – it’s about growth. We’re looking for someone ready to step into leadership, using their hands-on experience to mentor others, shape the future of the team, and help everyone be their best.
Communication is key – whether it’s chatting face-to-face, firing off emails or leading a team meeting, you know how to keep everyone engaged and in the loop.
A full, clean driving licence? Non-negotiable – you’ll be out and about visiting sites throughout Inverness and Dornoch. (Don’t worry, we’ll provide the wheels.) And yes, you’ll take your turn on the standby rota for out-of-hours work, but hey, we know you’re up for the challenge.
Now, for the ‘nice to haves.’ Experience with HGVs or 180/360 excavators? Brilliant. Know your way around cable avoidance tools or have some basic ground maintenance skills? Even better. A CPCS or NSRWA qualification? Gold star for you – but if you don’t have it, no stress, we’re still keen to hear from you.
What you’ll get:
While the work we do is important, we know it’s not the only thing that matters. That’s why we make sure you have everything you need to find a good work-life balance.
This is a full time (35 hours per week) role with some standby requirements. But you’ll get plenty of time to recharge with 38 days of holiday every year (including public holidays). And you can even buy five more if you need a little extra time. You can also take time off to volunteer in your community.
When it comes to major life events we have family-friendly policies around adoption, maternity, and parental leave. And for the everyday? We embrace flexible working. For your future, there’s our pension (the ‘know-what-you’ll-get-when-you-retire’ kind), and life assurance.
As for some nice extras? You can expect an annual company bonus. Not to mention access to SW Splash – handy rewards that can save you money on holidays, bills, and shopping.
The not-so-small print
This role will be a Grade 6. If you’re new to Scottish Water, you’ll join us on a starting salary of £33,560. Performance-driven pay progression would then allow you to move through the range to a maximum of £44,140.
Job offers at Scottish Water are conditional, and will be confirmed on completion of our pre-employment screening, e.g. referencing, criminal record checks, license checks, etc. These checks are conducted on our behalf by a third party. Don’t worry - we’ll ask your permission before starting these checks.
If you’re interested in this role – or know someone else who might be - we’ll be accepting applications until midnight on Tuesday 4 February 2025. Please include a Cover Letter with your application outlining why you’d be a great fit for this role. We’ll be interviewing the week beginning Monday 10 February.
