Craft and Design Teacher Closing Date: Midnight, 31st March 2025 Interview Date: Week Commencing 21st April 2025 Hours of Work: Woodwork/Design Technology (Academic Year 2024-25) - 14 hours per week (7 double lessons) - Classes 6, 7, 8 & 9 - increasing to 20 hours (10 double lessons) to include Class 10 (groups circa 12 pupils) Start Date: April/May 2025 We are excited to advertise the post of Craft and Design Teacher at York Steiner School for classes 6-10 (Years 7-11). We are looking for an enthusiastic, committed and highly skilled woodwork/design teacher. We have a purpose built Woodwork/Craft Room as well as an outdoor classroom. We are looking for a teacher who will inspire in our children a love of natural materials, design, beauty of form and making as well as problem solving. Subject Responsibilities Woodwork Review, tweak and enhance existing woodwork schemes of work in line with Waldorf principles and expectations Teach pupils about the properties of different materials Help and guide pupils with their own design ideas and introduce them to the design process Oversee pupil’s projects within a given timescale Model and build up pupils’ practical skills to ensure they are enabled to produce work of a high standard Assess and evaluate the quality of pupils’ work Enable pupils to follow instructions and to use tools and equipment effectively and safely Manage and maintain a safe and tidy working space. Additional Responsibilities Ensure that all lessons are planned appropriately with clear learning objectives, taking into account the needs of individual children Ensure that good work habits are developed in class Keep written records of childrens’ progress Liaise with the class teacher with regard to the progress and behaviour of the children Prepare individual end of year reports Attend CPD/INSET when relevant Uphold and maintain up-to-date knowledge of all school policies (including Health and Safety and Child protection) Monitor and keep to agreed budgets Attend a weekly staff meeting Statutory Requirements Responsibility for electronic record keeping to meet both statutory and school requirements e.g school management systems, Safeguarding systems Follow the school’s behaviour policy when interacting with children Report any safeguarding concerns in accordance with the schools safeguarding policy Education and Qualifications The successful candidate will have a relevant qualification and/or experience in a related field and be able to provide evidence of their competency in their specialism. A teaching qualification would be desirable. Most of all, we are looking for a candidate who is in sympathy with Steiner Waldorf Ethos, has an aptitude for working with children and is passionate about their area of expertise.
