A Sales and Proposals Engineer position is now available with my client who are leading manufacturer and supplier of specialist electromechanical plant and automated solutions sold into the automotive industry. Their ideal candidate will have a proven technical sales or proposals background within the automotive industry. This opportunity offers hybrid working.
Sales & Proposals Engineer Role:
Reporting to the Sales Director, the successful Sales & Proposals Engineer will be responsible for the following:
1. Generation of tenders in response to customer enquiries.
2. Ensuring customer requirements and expectations are fully understood and considered.
3. Considering alternative solutions to customer proposals, demonstrating appropriate advantages both technically and commercially.
4. Liaising with Group to obtain the most up-to-date estimating information, ensuring both the Proposals team and the estimating system are kept updated.
5. Actively exploring cost-effective solutions with customers and suppliers.
6. Working with Sales Managers to determine which enquiries to provide customer quotations for, taking into account competitiveness, competency, solution, and capacity.
7. Attending site to review potential projects to ensure all costs are identified and the correct solution is proposed.
8. Developing Plan & Review proposal strategy in conjunction with the management team.
9. Obtaining accurate quotations from suppliers selected in conjunction with purchasing.
10. Producing cost estimates using appropriate format, including internal effort plan, expenses, site set-up, and external costs.
11. Keeping abreast of, and contributing to, Group R & D to ensure the best technical and commercial solutions are offered to the customer.
12. Ensuring suitable equipment specification and selection involving liaison with available technical resources and suppliers as required.
13. Maintaining close working relationships with all key customers.
14. Maintaining a customer installed database of existing layouts, schematics, and process data.
This role offers hybrid working.
Sales & Proposals Engineer Requirements:
1. Relevant qualification in an engineering discipline or equivalent level of industry experience.
2. Proven Process plant / capital plant experience.
3. Proven estimating / proposal preparation and presentation development skills.
4. Mechanical engineering knowledge.
5. High level of oral and written communication skills.
6. Logical and systematic approach to tasks.
7. Good problem-solving and organisational skills.
8. Computer literate – proficient in the use of Word and Excel.
9. Ability to understand customer requirements and specifications.
10. Good at developing relationships, building trust and confidence with customers.
11. Financial and commercial awareness with the ability to review T&Cs.
12. Good influencing and persuading skills.
13. Flexible in hours and location – ability to travel to customer sites (for short periods).
14. Full UK driving licence.
Sales & Proposals Engineer Package:
Salary base of up to £50k (dependant on experience), 23 days holiday + bank holidays, Private Pension, Other attractive benefits offered, Career progression.
