Direct message the job poster from Slipstream Engineering Design Ltd
Slipstream Design works with inventors and technology pioneers to develop advanced wireless sensors that digitise the complexities of the physical world.
Specialising in intelligent sensor design, where radio signals converge with the digital domain, we create cutting-edge electronics for industries such as Communications, Aerospace, Defence, and Security.
Our sensors are shaping the future of radar with enhanced image resolution, securing critical communications, and enabling smarter decision-making technologies.
At our core is engineering excellence, allowing us to deliver sustainable, innovative products for a smarter, more connected future.
The role
As an Embedded Firmware Design Specialist at Slipstream Design, you’ll leverage cutting-edge technology to tackle complex challenges.
Your role will involve implementing communication protocols, developing algorithms, and streaming high-speed data to ensure we remain at the forefront of engineering.
Using tools like Eclipse and Vivado, you’ll design, develop, and validate embedded software and HDL source code for devices such as Xilinx/AMD, Analog Devices, and Intel, focusing on System-on-Chip technology in Transceivers and Transmit-Receive modules.
For example, developing bare metal code for an AMD System-on-Chip which transmit-receive module control, high-speed optical communication, clock configuration and synthesis of complex RF waveforms.
You’ll bring up new firmware and software interfaces in a controlled manner before diving into challenging, rewarding problem-solving alongside world-leading experts.
Your motivation will stem from solving problems rather than specific technologies, and you’ll embrace new techniques along the way.
Collaboration is key—you’ll share knowledge, contribute to reviews, and support team growth.
What you'll do
1. Design and development of embedded firmware and software for the next generation Digital RF systems in an agile environment
2. Analyse customer needs and define solutions within a collaborative and engineering-centric company
3. Carry out the test of solutions including lab, customer trials
4. Present and demonstrate your work to peers and customers: showing off the product as it emerges
5. Further develop proven prototypes to deployment standards
6. Contribute to the hardware design decisions
7. Develop the agile processes we use, helping us refine and improve how we work
8. Contribute to technical standards across your team and the company.
What you'll bring
1. Proficient with embedded system firmware modelling, simulations and debugging
2. Experience with the development of firmware for field programmable gate array (FPGA), expertise in HDL and/or Verilog development would be advantageous
3. Experience in programming across multiple platforms and languages for example C, C++, C#, Python, LabView, TestStand
4. Experience with one or more of the following development tools: MATLAB / Simulink, Xilinx Vivado, Vivado HLS, HDL Coder or open source toolchains
5. Experience in debugging digital hardware during firmware/software bring-up; familiarity with electronic design will be extremely valuable
6. Experience developing RF Systems is beneficial but not essential, if you are not already skilled in the world of RF you will bring a depth of skill from other digital disciplines
7. A passion for quality and writing clean, solid, readable code that scales and performs well, with excellent coding practices and a keen eye for detail
8. 2+ years of commercial development experience with a strong desire to learn and share knowledge
9. 1st or 2:1 degree from a leading university or demonstrate through your experience the ability to carry out the role.
What we offer
1. Competitive salary of £37,000-41,000 & bi-annual appraisal periods to recognise your achievements
2. 25 days annual leave + public holidays
3. Flexible working options
4. Access to future-focused projects accelerating your skills, coupled with tailored mentoring for career progression
