Job summary
The Senior Librarian (Learning and Teaching) oversees all teaching and training activity within the Knowledge and Library Service, and co-ordinates the delivery of library-based enquiry desk services, under the direction of the Deputy Head (Learning and Teaching). The postholder represents Knowledge and Libraries at appropriate meetings and sits on the Senior Leadership Team, guiding the team's management and strategic development.
The Senior Librarian manages the enquiry desk teams at our five NHS library sites, including estates and IT issues, delegating day-to-day operational management at each site to library managers and the Knowledge and Libraries IT Technician. The postholder leads on customer service quality and enquiry desk policy and procedure, including book circulation and document delivery services.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will work closely with the Senior Librarian for Information Resources on the development and implementation of the library management system (LMS).
The Senior Librarian (Learning and Teaching) is responsible for co-ordinating teaching and training activity across the team on a matrix model, to ensure it meets the needs of the Trust, partner trusts and partner HEIs. The post holder will oversee training needs analysis, evaluation, reporting, creation of teaching materials and quality assurance of teaching and training. In particular, the post-holder will be the designated lead for study skills teaching within the team.
The post holder will be expected to undertake regular travel between hospital sites.

To work closely with the KLS Senior Leadership Team and education leads at UHSussex, partner trusts, BSMS and partner HEIs on development of the teams teaching and training strategy.
To represent the service on committees related to information skills teaching provision at partner universities, such as BSMS.
To liaise with NHS knowledge and library staff at Surrey and Sussex, East Sussex and Queen Victoria Hospital on provision of information skills teaching to shared organisations, such as Sussex Partnership, Sussex Community and the Integrated Care System.
To oversee the provision of teaching and training by KLS staff to local staff and students under the direction of the Deputy Head (Learning and Teaching). This includes developing and implementing KLS policies and procedures on teaching and training.
To line manage the library managers and the Knowledge and Libraries IT Technician. This includes identifying training and continuing professional development needs and holding regular one-to-one update meetings and appraisals.

Experience/ Qualifications / Skills
Essential
1. Postgraduate qualification in information & library studies (or related degree)
2. Previous experience of working as a health or academic information professional.
3. Knowledge and experience of managing enquiry desk services in a library context.
4. Experience of planning and implementing service development.
5. Ability to market and promote a service.
6. Able to analyse and interpret data training attendance figures or document supply activity.
7. Experience of managing budgets.
8. Ability to improve knowledge of teaching and training methods and document supply services.
9. People Management and Development
10. Staff management experience.
11. Excellent interpersonal skills.
12. Must be able to work in a team and to communicate with sensitivity and tact with other members.
