Lead Data Scientist is a role for our most experienced and adept Data Scientists. You will be given some of our most difficult and challenging problems to work on. These problems could range from structured data problems through to image recognition.
The Lead Data Scientist will spend a large proportion of their time building AI solutions and solving business problems, but they also have a responsibility to develop the wider team and ensure an excellent standard of work is maintained. This will take the form of structured training, collaboration among the Lead community, as well as peer reviews and technical sign-off for models. We are looking for Lead Data Scientists to work in either our Pricing, Claims and Operations Data Science teams, as well as contributing to wider initiatives including our MLOps strategy and optimizing the model lifecycle and its corresponding governance.
About You
We are looking for a highly skilled, technical person that loves to take on the latest challenge. They must be passionate about pushing themselves and others to progress in technical areas, spanning both predictive and generative AI use-cases.
You will have a passion for Data Science and will be eager to drive forward the use of a variety of AI techniques to solve some challenging problems. You will be business focused, navigating the trade-off between time, cost and quality, and have a track record of delivering valuable solutions to the business.
Responsibilities
1. Be an advocate for Data Science and drive forward our use of AI in your functional area.
2. Ensure best practices are applied and encourage collaboration across teams. This involves the formal sign off of projects from a technical standpoint.
3. Develop, analyze and oversee the implementation of AI solutions.
4. Advise Data Scientists on different approaches and techniques. Challenge the team to think broadly and stretch our capabilities in AI through effective guidance and training.
5. Work closely with the Data Science Managers, Subject Matter Experts and Senior Management to understand and solve problems by asking the right questions and driving the delivery of appropriate solutions.
6. Remain up to date with trends and developments in technology and techniques in the external Data Science community.
7. Provide training within and outside your team.
Desirable Skills and Experience
1. Significant experience working in Data Science or a relevant field, in a Data Scientist role or equivalent.
2. Proficient in relevant tools and platforms such as Python, SQL, Google Cloud Platform (GCP), etc.
3. Exceptional numerical ability and creative thinker / problem solver.
4. Ability to initiate and drive projects to completion with minimal guidance.
5. Excellent communication skills with both technical and non-technical audiences, with the confidence to challenge business leaders using simple and compelling language.
6. Passion for mentoring and supporting other members of the team.
