An opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated individual to apply for the role of Ward Sister/Charge Nurse in our Children's Short Stay Unit. The role of the Sister / Charge Nurse is pivotal in providing leadership and supporting our nursing team, ensuring the smooth running of a shift in a challenging and busy environment. The Children's Short Stay Unit (CSSU) is a 12 bedded unit co-located within Children's ED. Patients are admitted directly from the Children's Emergency Department (ED) 24/7 for up to 24 hours of stay. The unit cares for children and young persons up to their 18th birthday presenting with a variety of illness and also injury. We have a dedicated Children's ED/CSSU educator who will work alongside you and your team to support you in their development. We offer many training opportunities delivered in house and also university and national courses to support you in your on-going development. The education team also deliver weekly MDT simulations within the department and our education pod. The training we provide offers opportunities for further roles within the department. We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic, confident and self-motivated nurse who possess excellent communication skills and who enjoys a challenge. Applicants must enjoy a fast pace acute environment as well as having a keen interest in ensuring high quality nursing standards are being delivered. Accountable and responsible for the Children's Short Stay Unit (CSSU). To be visible, accessible and responsive to the needs of service users, patients, carers and the public. Be an expert clinical practitioner, supporting the development of nursing staff (including ancillary and clinical support staff) to provide excellent quality of care to patients and services users. You are required to work clinically as well as provide managerial cover. Provide direction and effective and inspirational leadership to the nursing and multi-disciplinary team (including ancillary and clinical support staff) within the area for which you are accountable. Act as a clinical and managerial role model within the team, CMG and across the wider organisation. Take responsibility for the provision of a supportive learning environment for all students on placement within the unit for which you are responsible. Practice clinically in the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care for a defined caseload. Have the ability to multi-task and prioritise under pressure, working within a large multi-disciplinary team. Ensure trust values are incorporated into practice clinically and with the management of your team.
