Submarine Structures Engineer
Location: Bristol - Hybrid (3 days in-office per week
Contract Type: ASAP to 30/09/2025 (240 days)
Security Clearance: SC required – UK Nationals only

Our defence client is seeking a highly skilled Submarine Structures Engineer to support critical operations and ensure the safety, reliability, and capability of the UK’s in-service submarine fleet. This role is central to maintaining the structural integrity and performance of submarines, both at sea and during maintenance or operational procedures.
Key Responsibilities:
* Safety Assurance:
* Ensure all in-service submarines remain safe to operate in all scenarios, including at sea, alongside, and during docking/undocking.
* Manage safety risks within the Structural Strength domain, ensuring risks are tolerable and ALARP (as low as reasonably practicable) in line with relevant safety policies.
* Design Authority Responsibilities (DAR):
* Set requirements for surveys, repairs, ballast adjustments, and design changes related to structural integrity during submarine maintenance periods.
* Develop and approve design modifications that enhance safety or operational capability.
* Review design changes for impacts on structural strength.
* Operational Support:
* Assess operational defects (OPDEFs) for their impact on stability, manoeuvring, and control. Provide guidance and issue DAR instructions to mitigate risks.
* Offer expert advice on submarine structures for infrastructure projects, platform design, trials, and other enterprise projects.
Your Profile:
* Expertise: Demonstrable knowledge and experience in submarine structures, containment, and shielding, with a focus on maritime platforms.
* Analytical Skills: Ability to assess risks, review technical designs, and ensure compliance with rigorous safety standards.
* Collaborative Mindset: Capability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams, liaising with stakeholders across the Submarine Enterprise.
