Economic Development is at the heart of the Council’s strategic priorities with its focus on supporting ambitious, sustainable and inclusive growth. Our Economy and Skills service is central to achieving this ambition, we recently led on the development of a new Economic Strategy for Warwickshire.
The Business & Economy team leads on developing, commissioning and managing activity to facilitate and support business and economic growth. This includes developing strategies and commissioning plans; working with partners and Government to secure external funding and other investment; developing and commissioning new projects and programmes; and managing over £40 million of current services, projects and programmes for our businesses and residents.
We have a particularly strong track record of securing funding from European, Government and other funders. In recent years, we have been successful in securing funding from the UK Shared Prosperity Fund in collaboration with our District and Borough Council partners, Innovate UK’s Launchpad Programme and the Department for Energy Security & Net Zero for the Business Energy Advice Service via West Midlands Combined Authority. The work programme is varied, fast-paced and at the forefront of new government policy.
Funding Lead (Business & Economy)
The Council has a strong track record of securing external funding from European, Government and other funders – and we are looking for an experienced Funding Lead to join the award-winning Business & Economy team.
You will support the Lead Commissioner (Business & Economy) to identify and bring forward new opportunities to support business and economic growth. In particular, you will lead the design and development of new projects and programmes including the identification of funding and development of business cases or applications to funders. You will also lead on the commissioning, establishment and management of new projects and programmes or provide specialist advice and support to other colleagues. Key features of the role include a high level of strategic awareness and an ability to develop solutions in line with the economic needs of Warwickshire.
In the short and medium-term, you will play a key role in the delivery of the UK Shared Prosperity Fund in Warwickshire and the emerging Devolution Deal for Warwickshire. In the longer-term, it is expected that you will play a key role in the Council’s response to the Government’s planned reforms to local growth funding.
Key Requirements
The successful candidate will have significant experience of economic development including working with public and private sector partners to develop major projects and programmes and the preparation of business cases. You will have a strong track record of securing investment including from external funders and successfully establishing new projects and programmes. You will also have an ability to negotiate with multiple partners to achieve shared goals and to develop new partnerships.
You will have excellent project management skills, be an innovative and strategic thinker and have excellent communication skills. You will also have experience of leading and managing teams of internal staff, partners and external suppliers to achieve objectives and results.
