We are looking for a band 5 qualified nurse with experience in learning disabilities.
This is an exciting opportunity to work with a very established and dedicated team of staff. Belbrook is currently rated as good with Ofsted and Belbrook are very proud to offer a home away from home short stay service for children and young people.
Belbrook is a short break children's home in Bristol commissioned by Bristol City Council and employs AWP staff. We provide respite care for children from 8-18 years of age with learning disabilities and complex health needs. The provision covers 24-hour care and the shifts reflect this with sleep in duties and unsocial hours, including evenings and weekends.
Belbrook provides overnight care for up to three/four children each night.
Main duties of the job
As the nurse in charge of a shift, you will be a key worker to a group of allocated children, responsible for developing and reviewing care plans and risk assessments and liaising with parents/carers and other relevant professionals to support the child in every aspect of their life. We would expect you to provide a safe and supportive environment with personalised activities and regular trips into the community. You will manage a team of care staff, provide regular supervisions for staff members, and deputise in the absence of the Home Manager.
We will provide you with regular supervision, appraisal, and training opportunities to enhance your post.

Job responsibilities
* To carry out clinical practice within designated clinical areas, ensuring that high quality evidence-based nursing assessment, care planning, interventions, and evaluations for children and young people is provided. To ensure delivery of high quality residential service for disabled children detailed: National Minimum Care Standards of Children's Homes. This will include:
* Undertaking a comprehensive, children/person-centred, nursing assessment and prepare care plans in consultation with the children/young people, their parents/carers, and supporting professionals, to provide the best nursing care.
* Implementation of care plan and advocating for the children/young people.
* Evaluation of effectiveness of care plan provided in partnership with children and young people, parents and carers, and support professionals.
* Ability to implement research-based practice.
* Following successful completion of preceptorship, ability to supervise junior and unregistered staff.
* Ability to administer medicine within relevant Trust and legislative guidance e.g. NMC Standards for Medicines Management 2010 and the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971.
* Ability to undertake risk assessment and develop risk management strategies for individual children and young people who present with challenging behaviour.
* Demonstrate a working knowledge of the key elements of relevant legislation for Disabled Children in Residential Services.
* Ensure the ordering, storage, administration, and disposal of medication complies with relevant trust and legislative guidance e.g. NMC Standards for Medicines Management 2010, Misuse of Drugs Act 1971, and MHA (1983).

Person Specification
Qualifications and experience
* UK Registered Nurse LD/Children's
* Significant experience of at least 2 years post-qualifying.
* Experience of working with children with learning disabilities and complex healthcare needs.
Clinical Skills
* Knowledge of medication rounds and safe administration and disposal of drugs.
* Able to plan, implement, and evaluate resident care and act accordingly if untoward changes occur.
* De-escalation and listening skills.
* Physical Intervention and breakaway trained.
* Able to demonstrate experience of effective risk assessment and management.
* Knowledge of Safeguarding and Child Protection.
* Maintain accurate, appropriate records.
* Practical experience of providing high quality care and exceeding expectations.
* Able to develop an excellent therapeutic relationship; function as named nurse undertaking all aspects of the nursing process in order to provide the best possible care.
Professional/Leadership skills
* Able to communicate effectively and efficiently with other members of the team.
* Understanding of the importance of Health and Safety.
* Effective report writing to provide clear relevant information for handovers and case conferences.
* Have a working knowledge of Microsoft applications or equivalent including use of emails, word processing, and the use of the internet. Have a willingness to learn new applications as appropriate.
* Able to undertake clinical supervision, appraisal, mentorship, teaching, and preceptorships for Student nurses, bands 2, 3, and 4 staff. Ensure all personal development needs are reported to the team leader.
Knowledge
* Awareness of The Children's Home (England) Regulations 2015.
* NMC's 'The Code': Standards of Conduct, Performance and Ethics for Nurses and Midwives.
* Experienced/knowledge of current developments in learning disability care and nursing practice with a focus on children and young people.
Health and wellbeing
* Able to recognise signs of stress in self and in others.
