Serco: HMP Thaneside Permanent, Full Time £42,000 per annum LW Allowance of £6,200 Excellent Corporate Benefits Package Here at Serco, we are looking for an experienced leader and People Manager to join our fantastic team at HMP Thameside as Learning & Skills Manager You will hold responsibility for the delivery of functional elements of the Contract, in line with Service Specifications and Prison Service Instructions. Working as part of the Education, Skills and Work Management team, you will report to the Head of Education, Skills, and Work. You will be responsible for ensuring that your area of managerial responsibility functions efficiently and effectively, operating within the bounds of all local and national orders, rules and regulations. You will take pride and responsibility in promoting, developing and coordinating all learning and skills activity, (including education, vocational training, physical education, and library provision) in order to provide a comprehensive and coherent learning and skills programme for all prisoners. You will also be expected to: Manage the Prison Education Service (PES) and non- PES including industries, vocational training, and support purposeful activity. Assist in the planning and implementing of quality assurance frameworks, within the establishment. Co-ordinate Self-Assessment Reports (SARs) for the establishment Work with other resettlement services, the risk management unit and other functions, to encourage offenders to continue their learning on release – ensuring that appropriate Offenders’ Pathways are arranged/notified prior to release. Maintain a good working relationship with groups that provide funding including the Learning and Skills Council Take responsibility for the preparation of material for internal and OFSTED audits. Contribute to prisoner reports including Assessment, Care in Custody and Teamwork (ACCT) reports and parole reports. What you’ll need to do the role This is a demanding role which requires outstanding leadership, the ability to motivate others and manage complex processes as well as handle multi projects within strict deadlines so it is imperative you have the positive attitude, skills and experience to hit the ground running Your passion for success and evident managerial experience will include a relevant Management Qualification for a Senior Manager i.e.CMI level 4 or equivalent, or significant managerial experience in a custodial setting. Experience and an understanding for prison education is essential. Relevant Degree This role is ideal for someone who possesses sound ethical and professional standards and is willing to support and drive their team to maximise achievements with limited resources through effective management and leadership.
