Pembrey and Burry Port Town Council are looking to recruit a full-time facilities maintenance operative to join an extremely busy small team.
The successful applicant must have a clean, full UK driving license and enjoy working in an outdoor environment regardless of the weather.
Experience in a similar role and an aptitude towards day-to-day problem solving is essential. This role requires the candidate to be physically fit as it involves manual excavations, carrying materials, and prolonged walking in all weather conditions.
Main Purpose of Job:
1. To provide a high-quality public facing maintenance and groundworks service to all Town Council-owned and managed assets including cemetery, buildings, footpaths, parks, playgrounds, gardens and flowerbeds.
2. To undertake tasks as directed by your supervisor ensuring compliance with all relevant Health & safety legislation, best practice and the Council’s Health and Safety at Work Policy Statement.
3. To ensure that all health and safety requirements are adhered to and follows all Health and Safety Executive guidance and legislation.
4. To fulfil all personal obligations & requirements with regard to the Council’s policies and procedures with particular emphasis on equal opportunities, customer care, security, work standards and promotion of the Council’s values.
Key Tasks/Responsibilities:
1. To carry out all required maintenance and operations at the cemetery including grave opening and backfilling (both manually and mechanically as required by the location), grass cutting, hedge-cutting, safety checks on memorials headstones & benches, general cleanliness and upkeep of the grounds/graves, public toilets, and the buildings.
2. To carry out all required maintenance and operations on all Council-owned and managed assets including all buildings, footpaths, parks, playgrounds, gardens, and flowerbeds. Such tasks may include building repairs/reconstruction/installation, painting, clearing gutters & drains, litter picking & the emptying of bins, repairs to paths, fences, play equipment etc and to work with a wide range of construction materials such as cement, bitumen, rubber crumb safety surfacing.
3. To comply with the Council’s Health and Safety at Work Policy statement and to carry out all works in accordance with any relevant method statement, risk assessment and COSHH data sheet.
4. To use all safety equipment provided by the Council when carrying out tasks to ensure the safety of yourself, other operatives and the general public.
5. To carry out appropriate pre use checks and operate and use various items of machinery, equipment, power and hand-tools and vehicles used in your day-to-day activities including fleet vehicles, trailers, mowers, strimmers, hedge cutters, chainsaw, tower scaffolding etc.
6. To provide an effective caretaking and porterage service to all Council-owned buildings and external events including setting up and clearing away tables, chairs, equipment etc. prior to and after any event.
7. To assist in the opening and closing of all Council-owned buildings at the beginning and end of the day and to ensure all such premises are secured and alarmed when not in use.
8. To attend any training course deemed necessary for carrying out general duties and the council’s needs.
9. To undertake routine maintenance on vehicles, equipment, tools and machinery.
