Our client manufactures a variety of products for major retailers and this position plays a pivotal role in ensuring compliance, while maintaining strong customer relationships and delivering technical excellence.
What will you be responsible for?
The Technical Manager will be responsible for overseeing the technical function, reporting to the Head of Technical, ensuring all materials and finished products meet customer requirements, specifications, and legal standards. This customer-facing role will involve managing audits, leading food safety initiatives, and driving technical improvements.
Key duties include:
* Ensuring food safety and quality compliance through effective governance and HACCP processes.
* Investigating and addressing process deviations to maintain high standards.
* Acting as a key liaison with customers, including hosting site visits and audits.
* Monitoring and improving departmental performance to meet key targets.
* Managing and developing the team to ensure they achieve their full potential.
* Supporting launches and trials, occasionally requiring flexibility for weekend or evening work.
* Attending regular customer meetings in London, approximately every three weeks.
The ideal candidate will have:
* Extensive experience in chilled/high-care food manufacturing.
* A strong understanding of HACCP, food safety legislation, and customer standards.
* Demonstrable success in managing audits, technical systems, and quality processes.
* Experience working with customer technical databases and implementing codes of practice.
* A proven track record of delivering BRC or equivalent certifications.
* The ability to lead teams effectively and foster continuous improvement.
* Familiarity with managing leading UK retailers (top 4) as customers is highly desirable.
