Support Worker
We have an exciting opportunity for a Support Worker to play a vital role in providing support at our Move On Project (Addiction Services). You will be working for a people-led organisation whose mission and values is to inspire change across Sussex.

Salary: £27,363 per annum, pro rata (£22,186)
Hours: 30 hours per week (Monday – Friday)
Contract: Permanent

About the Project and Role:
BHT Sussex’s Addiction Services consist of three stages of residential services: Detox Support Project, Recovery Project and Move on Project. These services provide a comprehensive programme of support and rehabilitation for people who seek abstinence and recovery from addiction to drugs and/or alcohol.
The Move On project provides the third stage of treatment for ongoing recovery and reintegration into the community. All residents are required to be abstinent and to be willing to attend regular fellowship meetings. Most referrals are from the BHT Sussex Recovery Project. The project also receives referrals from other agencies and self-referrals.
The Support Worker will undertake a range of support and therapeutic interventions on an individual and group basis for those in recovery from drug and alcohol addiction. You will be part of a small team and responsible for the day-to-day housing management of the Move On project houses. In addition, the Project Worker is expected to develop and implement a range of focused activities, including relapse prevention work, support with accessing meaningful activities, and support and advice with accessing follow-on accommodation.
The Support Worker will be experienced in casework, particularly providing support to individuals who are in recovery from substance misuse through a 12-step support model. The Support Worker will also have a good understanding and knowledge of the issues surrounding addiction, including supporting individuals with multiple disadvantages.
Key Responsibilities:
* Facilitate referral, pre-admission support, assessment and induction into the service.
* Ensure the smooth transition of clients from residential rehabilitation into the service.
* Work collaboratively with clients in developing and implementing empowering and client-centred support plans that are regularly reviewed.
* Support the training, employment and education needs of residents. Refer to and liaise with other agencies, as appropriate, to meet identified needs.
* Work with residents to facilitate positive move on from the service.
Person Specification:
To be successful in the role of Move On Support Worker, you will need to have great communication skills and be committed to the values of BHT Sussex. Some of the key skills and experience you will need to bring include:
* A good knowledge and understanding of addictions, substance misuse and recovery; a good understanding of the 12-step philosophy of recovery.
* Understanding of housing management/tenancy issues, especially in relation to shared living and abstinent accommodation.
* Ability to empower people to take ownership of their lives and make the changes necessary to move to independence.
* Ability to set boundaries, challenge appropriately, and manage conflict constructively.
