Senior Research Engineer - Additive Manufacturing
We are looking for a Senior Research Engineer to join our Additive Manufacturing Team based in Coventry.
Duties and Responsibilities
As a Senior Research Engineer (SRE), you will deliver technical excellence across a portfolio of projects, provide thought leadership on the delivery of innovative technical solutions, and play a leadership role in the delivery of innovative project outputs:
* You will own the impact of existing products and develop Value Propositions to raise the Industrial Sectors’ awareness of the existing products and emerging value propositions;
* Contribute to technical and business strategies by developing specific technical and multi-theme roadmaps;
* Identify collaborative research and development funding opportunities and develop winning proposals;
* Ensure that colleagues receive appropriate technical guidance and governance in their project work;
* Mentor and coach colleagues in an empathetic manner;
* Provide technical governance for all aspects of MTC’s proposal and project delivery processes.
This role may also include specific responsibilities as agreed by the Component Manufacturing Technology (CMT) Group and Additive Manufacturing (AM) Department’s management teams:
* Management of specific hardware;
* Assessment of engineers’ and department’s technical capabilities;
* Development of resourcing options and team competencies.
You will horizon scan future technology, be aware of technology being researched by academia, seek internal funding, and provide governance of PhDs and Eng. Docs.
This role requires close collaboration with Technology Managers, Technical Specialists, and management teams, providing specialist input to business development, product management, and technology management functions.
In delivering this role, you will also:
* Work effectively with colleagues within MTC, Research Partners, Industrial Members, and the wider client base;
* Engage in training programmes consistent with your needs and aspirations;
* Carry out specific duties as requested by your line manager that are commensurate with the nature and grade of the post.
Person Specification
We are looking for a candidate who:
* Is a degree-calibre engineer, technologist, scientist, or mathematician;
* Has hands-on operation of polymer AM equipment;
* Has experience in polymer AM process research and development;
* Is knowledgeable in polymer chemistry and polymer AM material formulation.
Skills and experience should be demonstrated with Material Extrusion and Vat Photopolymerization as a minimum:
* Focused solution/application development for industrial end users;
* Collaborative R&D bid development including ideas creation and bid writing;
* Providing AM technical training;
* Leading and managing small teams of engineers;
* Supporting the development of engineers through coaching and mentoring;
* Experience with ceramic AM processes and materials;
* Knowledge of AM standards, certification, and qualification.
In addition, you will offer:
* An ability to manage relationships and negotiate with internal & external stakeholders;
* Expertise recognised both internally and externally, possibly as a chartered engineer or scientist;
* Leadership capability and resilience in the face of change;
* Good decision-making capability, managing concurrent tasks effectively;
* A creative mindset, able to identify and resolve issues analytically;
* Commitment to work collaboratively and network effectively.
