Applications are now welcome for the role of Flight Operations & Fuel Analyst.
As part of the introduction of a new fuel management system aimed at improving visibility of fuel burn and spend, the Flight Operations & Fuel Analyst will play a critical role in optimising the airline’s fuel performance. The successful candidate will support the set up and ongoing management of the system, provide detailed insights into fuel usage, help ensure compliance with standard operating practices, and support flight operations, engineering and finance teams. The analyst will also provide analytical and project support to the flight and wider operations departments as required.
Key Responsibilities
The main activities that will be carried out by the Flight Operations and Fuel Analyst are detailed below. As would be expected, the following is not exhaustive and reasonable responsibilities not listed below will be carried out, with training and support provided where required.
Fuel Performance Analysis:
* Analyse fuel burn data across all flights to identify trends, inefficiencies, and opportunities for improvement.
* Use the fuel management system to ensure visibility into fuel consumption and to maximise efficiency.
* Produce regular and ad-hoc reports for stakeholders, including flight operations and engineering teams.
* Develop KPIs to track fuel efficiency performance and adherence to standard operating procedures (SOPs).
* Provide regular updates on fuel efficiency and financial performance to senior management.
Financial Reporting:
* Work with finance colleagues to analyse fuel spending and its impact on overall airline profitability and assist with their fuel and ETS related Profit and Loss (P&L) and Balance Sheet reporting.
* Support the finance team in monitoring and reporting on fuel costs and variances against budgets, identifying opportunities for cost reduction.
* Support the finance team in accurate forecasting of fuel expenditure and provide insights for financial planning and budget adjustments.
Fleet Performance Evaluation:
* Analyse fleet performance in relation to fuel efficiency, identifying variances by route, serial number and airport from SOPs.
* Work closely with pilots and operations teams to understand any underlying issues and factors impacting fuel performance.
* Collate feedback from pilots and make recommendations to DFO and pilots on areas of improvement or highlight external factors that may need to be addressed.
Project and Software Support:
* Collaborate with the project implementation team to ensure that the new fuel management system is effectively integrated into daily operations.
* Ensure the system meets business requirements and supports fuel-saving initiatives.
* Provide training and support to system users.
* Support other operations projects delivery as required by the business.
Mandatory Reporting & Compliance:
* Oversee mandatory reporting obligations, including the UK Emission Trading Scheme (ETS) audits and carbon unit liabilities.
* Ensure timely and accurate submission of all fuel burn and emission-related reports to regulatory bodies.
* Stay updated on changes in emissions regulations and implement any necessary adjustments in reporting procedures.
Operations Analyst:
* Provide analyst support to the flight operations department.
* Provide any other analyst support for operations as required by the business.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs):
* Improvement in fuel efficiency and reduction in fuel burn.
* Compliance with financial reporting deadlines and accuracy in fuel and ETS related P&L balance sheet reporting.
* Successful integration and usage of the new fuel management system.
* Effective feedback loop with pilots and reduction in variances in fuel performance.
* Compliance with regulatory reporting deadlines.

Experience/Education
* Degree in a numerate discipline (engineering, science, mathematics, finance) or equivalent professional experience.
* Familiarity with MS Office and advanced MS Excel skills (to macro/VB programming standard).
* Experience with data mining tools to include analysis, data reduction and presentation.
* Software project management experience.
* Cross-disciplinary team player.
* Excellent communication skills to provide feedback to pilots and collaborate with multiple teams.
Desirable Requirements
* Experience in aviation fuel efficiency, flight operations, or airline performance analysis.
* Prior experience of air transport industry in a data analysis role; OR
* 3 years experience in an operational capacity in air transport or related industry if not in data analysis role.
* Current or previously-qualified pilot (private or commercial).
* Familiarity with aviation industry standards related to fuel consumption and emissions.
* Awareness of emissions reporting and carbon trading schemes (UK ETS preferred).
