There is an exciting opportunity for a Care of Elderly Consultant to join West Hertfordshire NHS Trust, a hospital which is currently undergoing redevelopment with the aim of a brand new hospital in the next few years.
The ideal candidate will be a dedicated professional with a specialist interest to join our team of substantive consultants, working core hours from 9 am to 5 pm and 1 week in 3 covering the care of elderly medicine on call.
This role offers a unique chance to contribute to the enhancement and development of elderly care within a busy but well-supported environment.
To enhance our reputation as an Employer of Choice, the Trust has approved the following Recruitment and Retention incentive for each successful candidate:
1. £7,000 golden hello payment for new recruits to be paid in 12 equal instalments.
2. £12k recruitment and retention fee year 1, 2 & 3 (paid in equal monthly instalments) for new recruits.
3. Successful candidates will also be eligible for a relocation allowance of £12,000 (if required).
Main duties of the job
The ideal candidate is someone with a passion for care of elderly medicine and service development, as there will be opportunities to redevelop existing pathways and ensure they are relevant for the new hospital and population we serve.
It is important that the candidate is able to work within a team in order to provide holistic care to their patients and support the greater MDT working with them.

Job responsibilities
Main duties include performing a daily consultant ward round, leading MDTs, and educating resident doctors working from 9 am to 5 pm. There will be a geriatric on-call commitment which will be 1 week in 3 with TOIL or an increase in PA given to compensate for this, the hours of which are 1:00 pm to 9:00 pm. The ideal candidate would also be able to contribute to service development within their specialty interest.
