As a Mechanical Project Engineer, you will provide support to ensure the effective delivery of activities within the programme, meeting required safety, quality, time, and cost targets. Your role will involve building strong relationships to drive project success while managing the wider impacts of the programme.

Accountabilities:
• Oversee the delivery of contract or package activities to ensure they are completed safely, on time, within budget, and to technical requirements.
• Develop and implement strategies and plans aligned with the Programme Execution Plan (PEP) to manage, organise, and execute the work programme.
• Maintain effective communication with all stakeholders, ensuring successful execution of the project strategy.
• Monitor project progress, track milestones, deadlines, and budgets, and provide key reports to stakeholders.
• Identify, manage, and resolve project risks and issues, escalating to the Delivery Manager where necessary.
• Ensure knowledge capture and lessons-learned practices are embedded as standard business procedures.
• Establish and maintain strong working relationships with all project team members.

Key Deliverables:
General Management:
• Provide engineering and management support to oversee all project-related operations.
• Plan, develop, and implement activities for the efficient and profitable execution of assigned projects.
Customer Service:
• Maintain high standards of customer service, continually monitoring and improving processes.
• Work closely with existing customers and support business development efforts to secure new clients.
Standards & Compliance:
• Ensure all project activities comply with relevant standards and legislation.
• Engage with internal support teams to obtain any necessary technical or regulatory guidance.
Operational Procedures:
• Allocate and oversee project tasks, ensuring efficiency in resource allocation.
• Prepare and manage project schedules, procurement deadlines, and material orders.
• Establish strong supplier relationships to ensure competitive pricing and reliable deliveries.
• Coordinate sub-contractors and ensure project requirements align with original tender specifications.
• Monitor and direct project activities to ensure compliance with design, regulatory, and quality standards.
• Represent the organisation at meetings with customers, consultants, and contractors.
• Conduct quality inspections and ensure compliance with health and safety regulations.
• Prepare reports on project performance and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
Commercial Management:
• Track project financial performance against targets, preparing reports for review.
• Assist in the preparation of project accounts and ensure variations are documented and agreed upon promptly.
• Support in final account preparation and approval prior to customer submission.
• Collaborate with the Senior Quantity Surveyor on sub-contract orders and material procurement.
Administration:
• Maintain organised project records in accordance with company procedures.
• Oversee administrative duties to ensure seamless project execution.
Personnel Management:
• Provide clear communication to team members, monitoring performance and productivity.
Health & Safety:
• Ensure all project activities comply with company health and safety policies.
• Support investigations into incidents and accidents as required.
• Conduct and monitor site health and safety inspections, ensuring corrective actions are implemented.
• Personally uphold health and safety compliance during site visits.
Business Development:
• Foster strong relationships with existing customers and identify new business opportunities.
• Lead and support initiatives for continuous improvement and operational efficiency.

Minimum Qualifications & Experience:
• ONC (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering (Piped Systems, HVAC, Drainage Heating & Cooling); working towards HNC preferred.
• Knowledge of nuclear installation standards, including safety-critical systems.
• Working towards a professional qualification in Project Management (e.g., APM PMQ).
• Experience managing projects from concept to completion in complex and regulated environments, preferably within the Nuclear Energy sector.
• Familiarity with working in heavily unionised environments and collaborating with IR managers and trade union representatives.
• Experience with Qualified Equipment products and services, including the Equipment Qualification (EQ) process.
• Background in quality assurance, compliance, audits, and process control.
• Understanding of nuclear safety culture and experience with safety-driven projects.

Additional Qualifications & Experience:
• Demonstrated project management expertise with financial and change management experience.
• Strong stakeholder engagement skills across multiple levels, including contractors and consultants.
• Working knowledge of CDM regulations.
• Understanding of nuclear quality assurance and control processes.
• Experience in the design, manufacturing, and installation of mechanical equipment, including Nuclear-grade and Nuclear safety-critical plant & equipment.
