Other: Occasional UK wide travel, including some overnight travel, when required
* We are observing a hybrid working policy, which provides for flexibility to work from home with an expectation that a minimum of 20-40% of our time is office-based work, dependent on team and other meetings.
Role overview: This is an exciting opportunity to join a highly impactful campaigning charity as Operations Director covering a period of maternity leave in the senior leadership team. The post-holder will be responsible for looking after the policies, processes and systems that support the organisation's continued growth.
Our successful candidate will have worked in a similar role with the financial acumen to ensure that current and future operations continue on a sustainable and viable basis; the skills and experience to be able to evidence positive outcomes and impact for funders; and the ability to support the Executive Director with broader charity compliance and governance matters.
KEY TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Financial management
* Lead on financial management, including overseeing financial systems and processes, ensruing the overall financial health of the organisation
* Ensure ongoing financial robustness and obtain best value across the organisation
* Oversee regulatory filings to Charity Commission
* Lead on annual Audit, working with external accountants
* Preparation and monitoring of £700k organisational budget
* Responsibility for financial reporting to board and funders
* Work with Treasurer to enable robust board oversight of performance against the budget, financial activity, funds movement and balance sheets
* Oversee financial management and reporting against projects delivered in partnership
* Line manage Finance and Office Manager
Compliance and Governance
* Support the Director in ensuring the organisation meets its constitutional, regulatory, and legal obligations.
* With support from Finance and Office Manager, lead on organising the AGM
* Support the Director in reporting to the board, and it’s sub-groups on Finance and Fundraising and HR
* Prepare proposals for consideration by the board
* Support the Director in reviewing and implementing effective governance measures
Fundraising and Funding
* Responsible for coordination of funder reporting
* Oversee and support the Finance and Office Manager’s delivery of financial reporting for funders
* Oversee the planning and delivery of work by an external fundraising consultant, depending on organisational need
* Produce project and core-funding budgets to support fundraising bids
HR
* Keeping our HR system up-to-date
* Lead on any recruitment processes
* Lead on salary review processes, with external consultants
* Ensure the organisation has appropriate HR policies and good practice in place, which support organisational vision and culture
Other internal organisational development
* Support the Director in the implementation of the Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning framwork
* Organisation of annual staff away day
* Oversee issues of data, risk and compliance
General
* Be responsible for monitoring and evaluation in your area of work
* Undertake other tasks/responsibilities reasonably requested by the Director
* Attend events on issues relating to work as agreed
* Attend and contribute to regular team meetings and team planning sessions;
* Attend 1-1 supervision with your line-manager
PERSON SPECIFICATION
Essential
* At least 3+ years experience in a directly relevant role, with comparable responsibilities
* Strong appreciation of what constitutes good charity governance and experience related to this
* Experience and understanding of income generation within the charity sector
* Line management experience and good knowledge of employment law and common HR practices
* Experience of developing organisational policies and supporting staff team development
* Commitment to the organisations mission, vision and values
* Excellent decision-making and problem-solving skills
* High degree of self-motivation, ability to work independently with minimal supervision,
* Ability to meet tight deadlines and work under pressure in a small team
* Excellent oral and written communications skills
* Excellent record keeping
* Ability to practice flexibility, pragmatism and work in a solution-focussed way
Desirable
* Demonstrable commitment to gender equality and human rights and an understanding of how intersecting inequalities affect different women
* Experience of working in a VAWG organisation or a related field
* Event management experience
* Knowledge and views on effective monitoring and evaluation methods for campaigning work
