Foster + Partners is a global studio for architecture, engineering, urban and landscape design, rooted in sustainability.
This role involves working closely with the specialist teams to ensure they have the right technology, hardware, and software to deliver high-quality work efficiently within tight deadlines. The Specialist Systems Engineer will also play a key role in managing the high-performance computing (HPC) environment, rendering farm, and Linux CFD clusters.
Responsibilities:
1. Specialist Support: Gain a deep understanding of the roles of specialist teams, how they contribute to business and project outcomes, and ensure their IT requirements are fulfilled and supported as required.
2. HPC & Render Farm Management: Manage and maintain the high-performance computing (HPC) environment, including the render farm and Linux-based CFD clusters, to optimise performance and efficiency.
3. AI & Machine Learning: Support the use of AI and machine learning tools such as Midjourney, DALL-E, Stability AI, and Adobe Firefly. Work closely with teams using these tools to ensure they function effectively within the existing infrastructure and are aligned to Foster and Partners AI policies and standards.
4. Technology Solutions: Implement, monitor, and deliver new technology solutions to improve quality and efficiency, ensuring that operational systems and hardware are optimised and supported effectively.
5. POC & Project Management: Lead proof-of-concept initiatives and manage projects related to new technologies, workflows, and hardware implementations.
6. Incident Management & Resolution: Monitor, manage, and take ownership of incidents and requests to resolution or fulfilment, providing timely customer updates as appropriate.
7. Documentation: Produce and maintain comprehensive documentation for reference and training purposes, ensuring knowledge is shared across teams.
Skills:
1. Able to demonstrate ability to undertake the above responsibilities.
2. Legally able to work in the country in which the position is based.
3. Self-Motivation & Ownership: Demonstrated ability to take ownership of tasks, prioritise workloads, and manage time effectively.
4. Advanced Troubleshooting: Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot issues up to a 3rd-line support level, ensuring problems are resolved efficiently.
5. Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly to non-technical stakeholders.
6. Operating Systems Expertise: Strong working knowledge and experience with Windows and Linux operating systems, including deployment, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
7. Networking Knowledge: Understanding of networking connectivity, diagnostics, and troubleshooting in a technical environment.
8. Scripting & Programming: Knowledge of scripting languages and computer programming to automate processes and optimise system performance.
9. 3D CAD Software: Familiarity with 3D CAD software such as 3ds Max, Rhino, and Revit.
10. Visualisation Software: Experience with visualisation tools like V-Ray, Cinema 4D, Octane, Enscape, Twinmotion, Lumion, and Deadline.
11. Game Engine Software: Proficiency with game engines such as Unreal Engine and Unity for visualisation and simulation.
12. AI & Machine Learning Tools: A good understanding of AI and machine learning tools like Midjourney, DALL-E, Stability AI, and Adobe Firefly. Ability to support the integration and effective use of these tools in design workflows.
