Job summary
We are excited to offer this new Community Psychology Opportunity for the Upper Valleys Cluster area -with an opportunity for progression from Band 7 to 8a as part of the preceptorship pathway.
This is a new development at Swansea Bay University Health Board who are keen to engage in preventative and early intervention to improve the Emotional and Mental Health and Well being of the population that it service.
This post is the second of four community psychology posts going out to advert in the near future. The aim being to embed this model in the heart of the community of Swansea Bay. The service will be a lifespan service and the aim will be to help improve community resilience at the front line, in the Upper Valley Community Cluster Area. The Upper Valley cluster includes, Amman Tawe, Dulais Valley, Pontardawe and Vale of Neath Practices serving a population of 32,138 people.
This initiative is part of the new Emotional and Mental Health and Well being strategy for the region and part of the health board priorities for Swansea Bay.
Main duties of the job
To provide a community psychology service to the Upper Valley Cluster geographical patch.
The provision will entail a robust assessment of the emotional and well being needs of the patch leading to a formulation of need whilst scanning the horizon for opportunities for shared partnership working to improve community resilience.
The model will evolve but can be based on that provided in Gwent- where provision is tiered with systemic/organisational psychological working into the patch, psychological consultation and support with the possibility of teaching, training, support, joint working and in some cases direct work with people, families and systems.
This is not a clinic based model but allows for creative innovation to help strengthen partners' ability to work with people in emotional need and distress and hold on to rather than refer on need.
The practitioner will be expected to closely evaluate their provision and feed that information through reports to those overseeing and commissioning the service.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.
