Product Development Engineer, Mechanical - SST Sensing
SST Sensing Limited designs and manufactures a range of electronic sensors and instruments, specialising in fluid and gas sensing products that have been supplied to multiple industries since 2002.
Our electronic sensor design and manufacturing facility is in Shawhead Industrial Estate, Coatbridge, just off the recently developed A8/M8. We work a 36-hour week, Monday to Thursday, 8.30am to 5pm, Friday 8.30am to 12.30pm and are flexible on the time spent working from home. The Role
The Mechanical Design Engineer will be responsible for translating design concepts into production-ready designs and working directly with customers to tailor and optimise sensor products to meet their specific needs. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in mechanical design and a passion for customer collaboration.
Duties and Responsibilities
1. Design Transfer:
o Convert detailed design models and drawings into production-ready specifications.
o Collaborate with manufacturing teams to ensure designs are feasible and cost-effective for production.
o Enter manufacturing information into factory ERP system.
o Work closely with customers to understand their requirements and provide customized sensor solutions.
o Engage in regular discussions with clients to refine designs based on feedback and optimize product performance.
2. Prototype Development:
o Assist in the development of prototypes and conduct testing to validate design functionality.
o Analyse test results and make necessary design adjustments to improve product performance and reliability.
3. Documentation:
o Create comprehensive documentation for designs, including specifications, manufacturing drawings, and assembly instructions.
o Maintain accurate records of design changes, customer feedback, and production notes.
o Identify opportunities for design enhancements and process improvements based on customer interactions and production experiences.
o Stay informed about industry trends and advancements in sensor technology to incorporate best practices into design work.
4. Collaboration with Cross-Functional Teams:
o Liaise with engineering, production, and quality assurance teams to ensure alignment on project goals and timelines.
o Participate in design reviews and contribute to the overall project development strategy.
Requirements
* Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related field.
* Demonstrated experience in mechanical design engineering, particularly with SolidWorks CAD software.
* Strong understanding of manufacturing processes and design for manufacturability.
* Excellent communication skills with the ability to work effectively with customers and cross-functional teams.
* Problem-solving mindset with attention to detail and a commitment to quality.
