In accordance with the practice timetable, as agreed, the post-holder will make themselves available to undertake a variety of duties including:
1. Surgery consultations
2. Telephone consultations and queries
3. Visiting patients at home
4. Checking and signing repeat prescriptions
5. Dealing with queries, paperwork, referrals, and correspondence in a timely manner
The post-holder will be asked to cover some 'duty' sessions on a pro-rata basis, which would be discussed and agreed in advance. Responsibilities include:
1. Making professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems, whether self-referred or referred from other health care workers within the organisation
2. Assessing the health care needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems
3. Screening patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness
4. Developing care plans for health in consultation with patients and in line with current practice disease management protocols
5. Providing counselling and health education
6. Admitting or discharging patients to and from the caseload and referring to other care providers as appropriate
7. Recording clear and contemporaneous consultation notes to agreed standards
8. Collecting data for audit purposes
9. Compiling and issuing computer-generated acute and repeat prescriptions
10. Prescribing in accordance with the practice prescribing formulary (or generically) whenever this is clinically appropriate
In general, the post-holder will be expected to undertake all the normal duties and responsibilities associated with a GP working within primary care. This includes completing care plans required for local enhanced services and participating in Enhanced Services work required within the practice. There may also be a requirement to complete extended hours in line with our contractual obligations in the future.
