Job Description
ESG
1. To ensure the health, safety and welfare of self and colleagues at all times and role model safe working practices and behaviours.

STRATEGY & STANDARDS
1. Develop UK HSE functional strategy and broader sustainability strategy, balancing local priorities and global initiatives, ensuring alignment to business strategy and priorities.
2. Provide advice and guidance on upcoming and existing legislative and regulatory requirements, standards and best practice, ensuring business compliance at all times.
3. Ensure HSE processes, practices, tools and ways of working align fully to, and enable the delivery of, the achievement of business strategy in a safe and sustainable manner.
4. Support Functional leaders and managers develop their HSE functional improvements and ongoing performance through role modelling, coaching and guidance.
5. Maintain HSE management systems.
PEOPLE & CULTURE
1. Consolidate and enhance the HSE culture providing standards, best practice and advice to the site teams and individual colleagues where appropriate and continuing to drive Target Zero initiatives.
2. Drive a culture of environmental sustainability throughout the business in line with the ESG Agenda, including GHG, carbon, energy, waste, water (Inc. effluent) and packaging impact mitigation.
3. Drive Target Zero culture, ensuring HSE considerations are included in all risk root cause analysis/accident & incident investigation and business continuity planning and activities.
4. Develop a risk management culture and awareness as part of the overall BCP planning and crisis management team.
5. Build functional capability by supporting the development of HSE professionals and non-HSE colleagues through regular reviews, capability assessments and mentoring.
6. Arrange appropriate HSE training for employees based on business needs.
7. Provide site-based technical and cultural support including through HSE committees, compliance reviews, coaching etc.
8. Provide assistance and support for root cause accident investigation in order to ensure that any action to prevent recurrence is suitable & sufficient.
TARGETS, GOVERNANCE AND DELIVERY
1. Collate and continuously develop HSE reporting processes.
2. Maintain effective management systems, developing local HSE policies and procedures reflecting changes in local legislation and global initiatives and standards (ABM and ABF).
3. Provide an annual audit of all HSE systems and recommend actions to drive improvement, adhering to the audit schedules and governance, participating in audits across UK&I.
4. Identify, propose & implement efficiencies to reduce the carbon footprint of the business, working cross-functionally to deploy solutions.
5. Develop and deploy appropriate HSE risk management targets and mitigations that support the overall business BCP crisis management programme.
6. Establish and manage an appropriate HSE forum to effectively engage colleagues and drive improvements throughout the UK&I business, identifying and sharing best practices.
7. Represent UK&I in Global Teams.
The Successful Applicant
For this National HSE Manager role, my reputable client is looking for a seasoned HSE professional with complex, multi-process, multi-product and multi-site experience - gained in an FMCG manufacturing (food/chemical/pharmaceutical) environment.
You will bring a deep understanding of manufacturing standards, processes, and regulatory frameworks, along with a proven track record in developing and deploying HSE strategies that deliver sustained performance improvements. Strong environmental/sustainability expertise is desirable, including experience driving impactful initiatives and mitigations.
You will be confident working across strategic, tactical, and operational levels, with detailed knowledge of HS&E practices, procedures, and methodologies. Experience in risk management within a business continuity and crisis management context is highly desirable.
You will hold GCSEs (or equivalent) in Maths and English, alongside a NEBOSH Cert. or Diploma, IEMA and IOSH highly desirable. A degree in a related discipline is desirable.
The 'home office' will be Corby, but this role requires extensive UK travel and a valid driving licence.
What's on Offer
As National HSE Manager you will be offered c. £75,000 - £90,000, with an on-target bonus of 15% (based on personal and business objectives, split 40:60). Additional benefits include a company car scheme/ £8533 allowance, pension matched up to 10%, PMI single cover, and access to the Perkbox discounts scheme.
