Job Overview
Community Neurorehabilitation
We have an exciting opportunity for a committed, highly motivated, enthusiastic and experienced Occupational Therapist to join our growing multidisciplinary specialist Community Neurorehabilitation Service. This post offers the opportunity to develop your clinical and leadership skills, as you will be a deputy to the part-time clinical specialist. You will be responsible for supervision of the team as well as having a key role in promoting evidence-based practice and service development.
All applicants must have experience of working with an adult client group in neurological rehabilitation at a senior level. You need to be a confident autonomous practitioner with high-level leadership and communication skills, a flexible problem-solving approach, good clinical reasoning skills, and be efficient in your time and people management.
Main Duties of the Job
* To provide advanced specialist Occupational Therapy input to clients as part of the specialist Community Neurorehabilitation service.
* To provide clinical leadership in partnership with the Principal OT into the day-to-day delivery of Occupational Therapy in the specialist Community Neurorehabilitation service, ensuring the highest possible standards of practice.
* Support the Team Manager – Specialist Community Neurorehabilitation, in establishing and monitoring a robust clinical governance framework for the specialist Community Neurorehabilitation service.
* To work independently in the community in a variety of settings while in direct contact with clients and their carers.
* To be responsible and accountable for occupational therapy assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of highly complex neurological conditions including stroke.
* Utilise effective clinical reasoning skills and evidence-based practice to develop individual specialist rehabilitation management care plans.
* To monitor, review, and continually re-assess clients with complex care plans and objectives.
* To engage in joint patient assessment/treatment with more junior staff as needed.
* To provide highly specialist advice & second opinions to more junior colleagues regarding the management and care of patients/clients with physical difficulties.
* To maintain up-to-date clinical written records and electronic database in accordance with local and professional standards.
* To write comprehensive discharge and progress reports to medical referrers.
* Triage referrals into the service to ensure the waiting time for assessment is met.
* To assess for and arrange provision of rehabilitative equipment as required.
* To ensure the vocational/occupational needs of the client are effectively addressed in treatment/rehabilitation.
Person Specification
Education/Qualification
* Recognised Occupational Therapy Degree qualification
* Successful completion of specialist short courses at MSc level, relevant to Neuro rehabilitation.
* Health & Care Professions Council (HCPC) Registration
* Evidence of leadership development including qualification/courses
* Registered member of BAOT specialist Neuro section
Experience
* Minimum 3 years experience working with adult client group in neurorehabilitation/stroke
* Evidence of recent Continuing Professional and Personal Development in relation to neurological conditions/stroke
* Proven multi-disciplinary team working
* Experience in a community setting
* Experience of supervising and contributing to service development
* Experience of developing and delivering training packages
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
* Professional/Clinical knowledge acquired through training and practical experience
* Experience of developing and using relevant outcome measures
* Demonstrates excellent analytical and reflection skills – clinical reasoning
* Ability to provide clinical leadership to a team of therapists and assistants
* Excellent teaching and presentation skills, both written and verbal
* Experience of leading clinical audits
* Excellent awareness of current research into relevant areas
