Main duties of the job
We are looking for an individual to work alongside the Programme Director to manage the Wessex Secure Data Environment facility (Wessex SDE), and secure data availability across the Wessex region, linking to prioritised commercial opportunities and then ensuring solution delivery to users, including paying clients, via the technical Wessex SDE platform.
Key Responsibilities
1. Oversee the operational delivery of all the Wessex SDE and to ensure safe conduct of clinical research and effective use of all resources.
2. Provide intellectual drive-in collaboration with the Wessex SDE Director and the researchers to develop and deliver a world class centre for translational clinical research.
3. Specifically, to take a lead in achieving key performance targets in line with national and local agreements.
4. The post has line management responsibility for Wessex SDE staff and assumes delegated responsibility for the budgets.
5. To support the strategic development of the UHS/UoS partnership's experimental translational research portfolio and infrastructure and the overall strategy for clinical research at UHS in line with national and local strategy and delivery plans.

Southampton is a world leading centre for translational research. Building on the success of the Southampton NIHR Biomedical Research Centre in Nutrition, Lifecourse and Metabolism, Respiratory and Allergy Medicine, Data Health and Society, Microbiology, Infection and Immunity, Data Health and Society and Perioperative and Critical Care.
General Duties
6. Provide operational leadership within the Wessex SDE.
7. Providing operational and strategic input, develop proposals for long term strategic capital and service planning for translational research which may impact across the Trust/University partnership.
8. Challenge existing patterns of delivery of clinical research to ensure efficient and effective use of resources.
9. Actively participate in planning Wessex SDE network-wide collaborations as appropriate and to implement actions arising from network discussion or agreement; to translate policy into practice in liaison with the SDE Director and UHS Director of R&D.
10. Ensure submission of SDE plans, investment proposals and business cases ensuring developments are dovetailed into Trust and University plans and priorities in liaison with the SDE Director and UHS Director of R&D.
11. Have lead responsibility for all policy implementation and policy and research service development for the Southampton SDE, working in partnership with clinicians and researchers in relation to research policies.
12. Support the implementation of NIHR and DH guidance and regulatory requirements ensuring costs are fully identified, funding arrangements are secured.

17. Evidence of post-qualification study/professional development to masters level (post grad certificate/MBA/MSc) or equivalent general management experience.

19. Experience of working in a large research active healthcare or equivalent setting in a senior operational delivery/management position.
20. Demonstrable knowledge of the National Institute of Health Research
21. Evidence of presenting complex information to internal and external groups
