Reporting into the Head of Estates, the post-holder will be responsible for managing the operational Engineering & Building Maintenance services of the Trust Estate.
Assist in the planning, co-ordination, and development of Estates services, by working with peer managers and stakeholders to identify best practice and implement a practical, cost-effective method of taking the services forward.
Assist in the review of performance of all areas of the service including drafting of policies and procedures, working in partnership with peers to develop policies and strategies of each of the services to meet the needs of all users.
To undertake the operational management of designated Estates Maintenance services including delegated Engineering Capital projects, to ensure that they are delivered in an efficient and effective manner and provide a proactive, high quality and cost-effective service.
The post-holder will provide specialist management, advice, and support as per HTM 00.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will act using their own initiative as the Operational Estates Manager and be responsible for the provision of a comprehensive maintenance service to include Property maintenance, Equipment maintenance, and Grounds and gardens maintenance utilising both directly employed labour and contracted services.
The post holder will be responsible for the management of a wide range of complex building services across a wide range of Buildings.
Liaison as necessary with Trust Management, Nursing, other support staff, and contractors to ensure optimal operation of all building services, plant, and equipment, to maintain a satisfactory Patient Environment.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* Degree or equivalent, or professional qualification, in relevant areas, and or demonstrable and equivalent experience in relevant areas.
* Member of an appropriate professional institution.
* Master's degree or equivalent experience.
Knowledge & Experience
* Up to date knowledge of monitoring and promoting health & safety in the workplace.
* Sound working knowledge of Management Information Systems and Compliance & Quality Assurance Systems.
* Relevant management and operational experience in a health service or an equivalent operational area.
* Experience and proven track record of managing a variety of diverse services within a Facilities management environment.
* Expert technical understanding of the range of highly specialist services and equipment found within acute hospital setting.
* Knowledge of NHS procedures for the management of the estate and Health & Safety legislation.
* Experience in the introduction and effective implementation of change in a complex hospital environment.
* Experience in managing and reporting against authorised delegated budgets.
Skills & Abilities
* Ability to use word processing, spreadsheet, database and/or presentation software to an advanced level.
* Ability to engender confidence and influence behaviour by collaborative persuasion.
* Ability to communicate with both junior and senior members of the Trust.
* Excellent written and spoken skills, that enables the post holder to carry out the role effectively.
* Ability to communicate highly complex information widely with a range of stakeholders on Facilities Management issues.
* Ability to prepare business administration documentation such as business cases, etc.
