An exciting opportunity has arisen for a full-time play leader to join our Children's Community Nursing Team based at St Luke's Hospital.
The role is varied, supporting Children's Community Nurses as well as Clinical Nurse Specialists to provide preparation and distraction for medical procedures, alleviating fears and misconceptions using play and creative activities.
You will also work alongside the wider BTHFT teams to support children who have feeding aversions and advise parents on developing a positive feeding experience.
Main Duties of the Job
We are looking for someone with experience working with children 0-18 years to promote play and stimulation appropriate to their stage of development and physical and emotional needs.
Job Responsibilities
You will need to have experience of working with children who have a palliative diagnosis and can support the family with memory making and offering opportunities for them to explore their thoughts and feelings. Communication is very important; you will manage your own workload, maintaining excellent documentation and timekeeping.
Person Specification
Experience
* Experience of working with children with complex health needs
* Experience of working with children with palliative care needs
* Knowledge and experience of working in a multi-cultural environment
* Ability to present care management perspectives to other professional agencies
* Ability to reflect and adhere to professional boundaries of the role, referring to a line manager where necessary
* Theoretical knowledge and understanding of therapeutic play and child development
* Knowledge of effects of hospitalization on children, young people, and their families
* To demonstrate basic leadership skills through the management of designated projects
* Community care experience
* Experience of working with children with special needs and learning disabilities, including those with challenging behaviours
* Experience of working with children and young people with neurodiversity
Skills
* Good organisation skills
* A full understanding and ability to plan and apply play preparation, distraction therapy, and post-procedural play
Qualifications
* NNEB / BTEC Nursery Nurse Qualification
* Hospital Play Specialist Course
* Foundation degree in Health Play Specialism or HPSC/HPSEB or an equivalent qualification in hospital play
