An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 7 Clinical Specialist Occupational Therapist to work in the Specialist Palliative Care Team (SPCT) based in Glan Clwyd Hospital on a permanent basis. This post is for 19.13 hours per week and will cover both Conwy and Denbighshire.
SPCT is a dynamic place to work and supportive of the palliative rehabilitation approach from Occupational Therapists. You would be involved in leading the Occupational Therapy service and managing a caseload of community palliative patients, many of which will have complex needs.
Significant and current experience of working within community services is essential. You will play a critical role in the development of this service whilst also ensuring person-centred care is delivered in a timely manner, to patients in their own homes.
Main duties of the job
The post-holder will demonstrate and gain further experience in modifying the environment, equipment prescription, reframing occupational goals, moving and handling techniques and the management of symptoms (fatigue, anxiety, breathlessness and pain). You will work closely with the wider SPCT to respond quickly to the rapidly changing needs of this client group and their families/carers to provide a specialist service that will enable patients to live as actively as possible.
This post is suitable for all Occupational Therapists that have experience in and a keen interest in palliative care and wish to develop this further.
You will have excellent organisation and time management skills and be able to work flexibly to meet the needs of this post.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the day-to-day management and supervision of junior staff within the department and within the cancer treatment centre. Formal supervision and completion of annual appraisals with junior staff will also be required. In addition, the post holder will contribute to the wider Occupational Therapy service i.e., audits, service developments, attending meetings.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
